In my experience, Glengoyne is always a pleasure. It is a great whisky that never disappoints. That does not mean it is always superb, but it is the kind of whisky I will buy without trying first. This is the 31st Glengoyne bottled by the German company Malts of Scotland. Theirs have always been a bit of a party.

The nose is a small fruit bomb. Banana, peach, gooseberry and some orange dominate, while a bittersweet touch of grapefruit lurks under the surface. Soft garden herbs and a floral touch of dandelion emerge. Hint of white chocolate. This is all fine.

Powerful arrival with loads of white pepper and candied ginger. Now the grapefruit plays first fiddle. Wonderfully zesty and bittersweet. Touch of woodsmoke. Midpalate I get some overripe cider apples and a hint of marzipan.

The medium long finish keeps your throat nicely warm. It dies on sugared lemon peel with a bit of pepper.

Great dessert malt, which is a tad more complex than the official 15 Year Old that I recently discovered in Edinburgh. Around 100 EUR.
