This single cask from Glengoyne was put to sleep on 14 May 1987 and appeared on the market in August 2006. It is pretty hard to find these days and when you do find it, you will fork over around 200 EUR for it. I was fortunate enough to get a sample from a whiskybuddy.

The rich nose offers toffee apples, fudge and a whole rack of herbs. Green garden herbs like thyme and parsley. Then some nougat with loads of nuts. Hints of chocolate with honey. Squashed banana with brown sugar. Brownies! Evolves towards red berries and strawberries. Very fine and discrete hint of wood smoke. Creamy nose, very attractive.

On the palate it is very sweet and full. Licorice allsorts. A bit of espresso. Mildly drying effect from the sherry.

The finish is long and spicy and ends honeysweet.

Surprisingly good Glengoyne, that most likely be an absolute stunner if it had been bottled at cask strength.
