The Creative Whisky Co Ltd specialises in Exclusive, single cask, single malt whiskies. Managed by David Strik, who has a has a passion for whisky, and has been in the business for quite a few years now. Previously he worked as a Co-coordinator and Journalist for “Whisky Magazine”, in addition for authoring a couple of whisky related books : “The Malt Whisky Guide” and “The Distilleries of Campbeltown”. He also spent time with Scotland’s oldest independent bottler – nosing and selecting hundreds of casks each year prior to opening his own label. TCW features three lines of bottlings: Exclusive malts, Exclusive Casks, and the Exclusive range which consists of Single Cask whiskies bottled at various strengths and predominantly young whiskies ranging from 8 years to 16 years. These casks are picked as easy-drinkers, but still should retain single cask hand picked quality. The next whisky belongs to this “lesser” series. After having liked the Glengoynes , It was interesting to try a fairly young, sherry matured single cask, as this was also my first CWC dram (and not my last, a couple of other tasting notes from other distilleries and cask are coming soon).
Nose : Sweet sherry notes, pralines, dried fruits salad, hint of fresh grass and wet oak. Palate : starts bitter sweet with dark chocolate covered raisins and nuts. Quite a few tannins also. The wood effect is noticeable. Not expected from a youngster like this one. Finish : bitter wood. And dark praline.
Bottom line:
A very enjoyable sherry dram. Not over complex, but as suggested, very communicative and offers a lovely Praline / Chocolate profile.
