The yearly Distillers Edition from Diageo is a speciale release of their malts, in which the whisky has been double matured. For Glenkinchie, this was a maturation on bourbon casks, before a second period of rest on Amontillado sherry casks. This bottling was released in 2007.

The nose is fruity and sweet. Oranges and apricots with a hint of unripe pineapple. Mildly floral with freshly cut grass and wild heather flowers. Quite grainy. Hints of dades. After a few moments some banana kicks in. More than okay, though.

It is nicely oily, but immediately honeysweet on the palate. The same fruit as on the nose, upholstered with some mild spices. A bit of cloves and liquorice, but also a pinch of pepper. Some nuts join. Again more than okay, but far from grand.

The finish is medium long and shows some agrums and cocoa.

This one is hard to find nowadays, but do not despair, it’s not that good. Much better than the regular 12, but also twice the cost. Spend those 65 EUR on something else.
