Glenlossie is rather unknown for the simple reason that official releases are hard to find. All of it is meant for the blenders, who feel Glenlossie is a top malt. Glenlossie 1992 in particular – for me – stands out. I wonder if this one from Blackadder will be as good.

A fresh spring nose full of orchard fruit (apples and pears) and a twig of mint fills my nostrils. Quite some vanilla and a touch of liquorice. Mildly floral. Grass? Hay? Something between the two. White chocolate. Adding water makes it greener and gives it a nice herbal side. Garden herbs.

It is creamy and round. Nice body. Immediately very powerful and spicy – what did you expect? Again white fruit, but now with loads of gooseberries. The oak is quite loud. Midpalate I get a good dose of citrus. Think lemon and grapefruit. Diluted it becomes sweet. A lot. As if the apples are sprinkled with icing sugar.

The finish is medium long on spices and citrus. That does not change with adding water. Although the finish seems to elongate a little.

Nice aperitif whisky that can take some water – if you have a sweet tooth, that is.
