Flander’s Finest Cask Selection – a Flemish collective of whisky retailers – regularly travels to Pitlochry to visit the warehouses of Signatory. They clearly know what they are doing, as I already tasted a powerful Ardmore 2008, lovely Auchentoshan 2000, sweet Caol Ila 2008, quaffable Glen Elgin 1995 and delicious Glen Elgin 1986, a candy-like Linkwood 2008 and a spectacular Highland Pa… errr…. Orkney 2005. And now they selected a young Glenlossie at cask strength. Here we go.

Soft and sweet nose with herbal traits. Think toffee fudge or Werther’s Original in combination with fern and green wood. Hint of mokatine. A very candy-like sweet malt, if you ask me.

It is oily and sweet on the palate. But very spicy! Pepper, ginger, liquorice… mostly pepper. The sweetness translates again in to toffee and then some. Becomes quite buttery. With candied sugar. Dark fruit: plums in the lead, followed by figs and apricots. I am in doubt as to add water or not. No, I’ll leave it be.

The finish is pretty long, dark and sweet but oh, so prickly!

The boys and girls of Flander’s Finest Cask Selection have not lost their touch. Another lovely selection. Keep ‘m coming!
