I have only recently tried a 17 Year Old Glenrothes in the Old Particular series by Douglas Laing. This one is a lot younger, but also cut to the same drinking strength of 48,4% ABV. This, however, is a sherry cask as you will soon find out!

Caramel, red fruit, candied oranges, cardemom, Turkish Delight, aniseed and – alas – some sulphur. That is the nose of this young one. Luckily the sulphur absolutely does not linger and is quickly replaced by all the sweet notes that accompany it as well as some nuts and chocolate.

It is oily on the palate. A little softer than expected and immediately honeysweet. A tad too sweet to my taste. But also very fruity and mildly spicy. No surprises after the nose, but that is quite alright. The oranges shine through the most, but does make it turn a little bit liqueurish.

The finish is medium long on more red fruit and some spices.

Nice young Glenrothes, but a little bit on the sweet side. Around 85 EUR.
