I'm a huge fan of Glenrothes, so when I was placing an order with Master of Malt Drinks by the Dram, I selected every sample of Glenrothes that they offered. This 15yr expression from Duthies is one of these samples.

This 15yr is a very light colored malt, bottled at 46%.

Nose: Quite spirity, with floral notes. Some butterscotch coming through. Caramel, berry fruits, vanilla and almonds. There is some youth on the nose, which is evident in its spirity character. This is very light and crisp. A little nose tingle. Overall, this is really wonderful. Quintessential Speyside, with no trace of smoke, sea air, or pepper. Its all honey, caramel and floral notes with just a bit of toffee.

Palate: Very light in the mouth. Delightful. Fruity sweetness coming out in honey and nectar notes. A bit of spice in the mouth.

Finish: Wow. Long and wonderful, with lots of honey on the finish. There may be the slightest hint of oak in the back.

I'm a bit surprised by this whisky. It really is a lot better than I thought it was going to be at first. With that first whiff, I thought I was in for a spirity malt, but that note was not predominate, and was subdued wonderfully by the honey profile.

If this whisky was given another few years to take the bit of youth off the edges, this would be even better. As it is, it is still a very good dram.
