The Old Particular range by Douglas Laing has already released quite a few gems. Today we go down the Speyside path for a single cask Glenrothes, which matured for 17 years. It was cut to a drinking strength of 48,4% ABV.

The nose is lovely and fruity. Creamy sweet on biscuits and loads of vanilla, apples and pineapples. A bit of camphor shines through and seems a bit at odds, but it is not disturbing. Some caramel and a hint of banana peel. Fresh and lively.

It is nicely oily on the palate. Good body. Sweet as on the nose, upholstered with some spices. Again camphor, but also some white peper and a bit of licorice. Some lemon zeste appears. Trace of woodsmoke. I like this a lot.

The finish is medium long, even sweeter than on the palate, but still pretty spicy.

Not overly complex, but rather straightforward. But good, very very good indeed. Great aperitif whisky if you ask me.
