Maltman will soon have an Auchetoshan on the market. You can imagine that is something I am personally looking forward to. But for now, I will settle for this young Highland Park bottling. On the back label it reveals the cask number: 5818.

The nose is pretty closed. It takes patience and hand warmth to reveal heather, white fruit and vanilla ice cream. Agreeable, but very light.Hang on. Did I not just try this? Did I accidentally switch glasses? This is very much like the 12 Year Old HP from Archives. However? This one has pears, rather than banana. And something that reminds me of eggnog.

On the palate, it is sweet and fruity, but oh so light. Both white and yellow fruits coming through. Light on the spices with a salty twist. This is dangerously drinkable. Break out the cards, put up a chair in the sun and before you know it, you will be opening a second bottle.

The finish is medium in length and wonderfully smoking towards the death.

A bit of an atypical HP, if you ask me. Very good, but a bit too light to my taste. A typical card players whisky. And very friendly prices at 45 EUR.
