This Highland Park was selected by the Tongerse Whiskyvrienden (a Belgian club), shared with the Dram Brothers in Luxemburg. The cask came from the warehouses in Paderborn from the German bottler Malts of Scotland.

The nose is somewhat closed and needs some hand warmth to open up. First I get some sweet malt, heather, freshly cut grass and a touch of mint, upholstered with yellow apples and yellow plums. After warming a bit more I get some lemongrass as well as pear drops and vanilla. Opens up nicely.

The arrival is powerful with immediately sugared lemon peel, mirabelles again and some green tea that makes your mouth twitch, but in a good way! Mild smokiness develops, while some pepper joins the fray. Becomes quite big, but does not need water. Nicely oily, by the way. Midplate it turns suddenly salty, giving it a nice complexity. This one comes in layers!

The finish is very long on lemongrass and pepper.

Silent waters run deep. That is the least you can say of this great HP. Around 140 EUR.
