For me, Highland Park 2001 Vintage was a huge success. So this 1994 edition, a 16 year old whisky matured in first-fill European sherry casks, was bit of a disappointment.

The 2001 version has way more character, even though it has 40% ABV level as well. HP 1994 has some potential but it is just too light for my taste. It does have all those HP ingredients. It is spicy, floral and has toffee in it. But everything is in a delicate package.

This is definitely a light drama – to be enjoyed "Before Sunset". Or "Before Sunrise", either way, in a Richard Linklater type of way.

Nose: Salty sea breeze comes first. Then some earthly and floral tones and spices, all in a light way.

Taste: Spices and some berry-like sour notes. Toffee with sugary notes.

Finish: Very light, which is almost always a turn off for me. Lingonberry and lots of other sour berry notes.

Balance: I'm repeating muself but let's state it once again. Nice but light dram.
