The boys and girls of Flander’s Finest Cask Selection chose this vatting from the stables of Signatory. It is an ‘Unnamed Orkney’ which of course is double speak for Highland Park. So without further ado, let’s open this baby.

Oh, hang on! This is very special. On the nose at least, this is what you would call spirit driven. A perfect mix of the traits that Highland Park is to be associated with: subtle peat smoke, loads of maritime and earthy elements, upholstered with sweet malt, heather, olive oil, candied citrus peel and all kinds of grass. Wonderfully herbal. With water it becomes a touch waxy and even reminds me a bit of burns cream, but in a good way (Mark, WTF?).

Ka-boom! Highland Park butt naked! Sweet and sour on lemon, very mineral, limestone and chalk, peat smoke and mild woody notes. The typical Orkney peat does its job, but never dominates, as it should be. Perfectly quaffable, but since I have the luxury of a full bottle, I gladly try with a bit of water. That makes it surprisingly sweet on white peach, apple and more sugared citrus peel, but very quaffable indeed.

Delicious, mineral and sweet finish, very waxy. A bit like having some pepples in the mouth.

A very naked Highland Park, if you know what I mean. Kudos to Flander’s Finest Cask Selection for scoring this HP. Available for around 80 EUR. Amazing.
