Imperial is no more. The distillery – that was more closed than open – has been demolished. At the site Chivas Brothers built a modern distillery in 2014: Dalmunach. We’ll try an older release from Signatory from a series of which they have already released quite a bit of bottles. This is a vatting of two hogsheads, cut to 46%.

Summery and candy-like nose with pineapple cubes, banana, peach, butterscotch, lemonade and a truckload of vanilla. Nicely waxy. Very pleasant and accessible.

Very creamy on the palate. Again a truckload of vanilla, a soft note of white pepper and a hint of nutmeg, before the fruit puts down is foot. Peach, banana, pineapple, lemon. A hint of eucalyptus offers a fresh lift. This is dangerously quaffable.

The finish is medium long and zesty with some wood spices at the death.

Darth Vader’s aperitif.
