The newest Laphroaig from Malts of Scotland is a 16 Year Old. It was released in what I call their winter release, although I have the feeling autumn release would be more accurate. I am quite certain, with the tempo they are maintaining at this point, some new releases will hit the shelves before the end of the year.
The nose is creamy, very sweet and lightly medicinal at the same time. Juicy too: gooseberry, apple sauce and even pineapple on syrup. A pinch of salt and some maritime elements. The longer you leave it to breath, the sweeter it becomes. Espresso, leather and flints. Milk foam! Very interesting.
It is soft and creamy on the palate, mildly seasoned on cloves and cinnamon. Again a lot of sweets that balance this Laffie beautifully. The sherry is much more pronounced now. Dark fruit and blood oranges break through the salty surface. Very nice indeed.
The finish is fairly long on sherry and smoke.
Thank you, Malts of Scotland, for continuing to bottle these gems. Around 100 EUR. Thanks to Jeroen for the sample.
