Linlithgow is the name of the village where the Saint Magdalene distillery was operational from 1798 until 1983. A lot of independent bottlers therefor choose to put the name Linlithgow on their bottles. Douglas Laing did the same for this bottling of Old Malt Cask. It contains Saint Magdalene whisky of no less than 26 years old. It is a distillate from 1975 that was brought to market in 2001. Very hard to find these days.

Oh, what a grand nose! All kinds of fruits, mandarin in the lead, closely followed by caramelized lime. Mango pipes up immediately and soon takes rushes ahead. Some hints of smoke and menthol, dried flowers and leaves. Candlewax. Complex nose!

It remains a little fruit bomb on the palate, but also offers a sweetness of candy as well. Wine gums, but also hard candy, the ones you can suck on for minutes on end. Honey and citrus. Vanilla. Pears and peaches take over. Spicy, by the way. This is very good stuff indeed!

The finish is long, spicy and remains fruity until the very end.

Grand, fruity, candied Lowlander.
