Littlemill recently released a new official 27 Year Old. It was dubbed Private Cellar Edition and comes in a beautiful chest with a miniature and a piece of stave. Pricetag: £2.250. Now, even though the pound is currently quite favorable to the euro, that is still prohibitively expensive. I will settle for this much less expensive release from independent bottler Berry Brothers.

It is soft on the nose, creamy on pastry, vanilla sugar and candied orange peel. It offers a touch of ginger. Orange blossom! Dades and lightly roasted nuts. Quite pleasant.

The arrival is rather piquant, something I did not expect. Freshly cut grass, eucalyptus and verbena. Hints of tropical fruit, albeit in the background. Ginger returns and is joined by some cinnamon and a hint of pepper. A bit of oak as well – a little too much to my taste, actually.

The finish is long and very spicy, but it quickly loses its fruity nature.

Lovely Littlemill, but not one of the best. Too little fruit and too much oak.
