It's Christmas Eve, folks! Our second-to-last dram is Loch Lomond 12 Year Old - non-chill-filtered and matured in ex-bourbon, recharred and refill casks.

The colour is a medium amber. On the nose we have caramel, ginger, vanilla cupcake and red apple. Rather herbal. Strawberry. Slight hint of smoke. Earthy. Kind of a gingerbread quality - just in time for Christmas!

The palate is silky with darker caramel, more ginger, some chili, raspberry and peat at low-volume. Orange pith with a hint of lemon zest. Rich but elegant.

The finish is oaky with wood smoke, toffee and clove. Other Loch Lomonds I've had before have been a bit off-putting, but this is delicious - slightly peaty, earth, rich but also fruity and malty. Very nice.

Interesting review, do you know if this is a new release or a rebranding of Loch Lomond 12?

I'm not totally sure, but I think the LL12 has been around before, and this is probably a new branding. No idea of the flavour profile is better or worse than older bottlings (I do know it's better than their current NAS offering).
