Longrow Tasting Room

Just like Hazelburn, Longrow is not a distillery, but a single malt that is produced at Springbank. In the Tasting Room at the distillery, you can fill your own bottle from a cask that is available to the visitors. Longrow is the peated version of Springbank (sort of). This Longrow is 12 years old.

The first whiff that hits me on the nose is one of manure. Next to that, some goat cheese. Sounds appalling? It is quite nice though. Pretty smoky and not very sweet at all. Do I smell some heather? A lot of moss, as well. A pinch of salt and some overripe yellow apples.

On the palate, it becomes a whole lot sweeter. Some white fruit and honey. Bourbon cask, I think. The spices seem to confirm this. Vanilla, white pepper, ginger. Toffee, too. Nice peat, without becoming dominant. Quite a bit of brine towards the end. A touch of oak.

The finish, as far as I am concerned medium in length, is smoky and sweet, but it dies a salty death.
