This bottling from Gordon & Macphail does not name a distillery, but rumour has it this is a Macallan as well. Hence I taste it in this little line-up. It is simply named Macphail’s 10 Year Old and has a wonderful golden color.

It is very sweet on the nose. That is the sherry cask, of course. Oranges (peel included) in the lead, followed closey by mildly roasted almond shavings and some spices. Think nutmeg and aniseed. The second layer offers some tropical fruit. Apricots, pineapple and maybe even a bit of mango and pomegranate. Becomes sweeter all the time. Surprisingly good.

Mildly creamy on the palate, honeysweet and very softly spices. This is lemonade, man! But very good lemonade, to be sure. The same fruit as on the nose, upholstered with some honey. Orange marmalade. A touch of oak.

The finish is medium long and remains very sweet with a spicy end.

A positive surprise in this Macallan line up of mine. Thanks, Foamy, for the generous sample.
