Miltonduff 30 Year Old 1980 A.D. Rattray

Miltonduff is a Speyside distilleerderij that I have only encountered once before. So I have absolutely no experience to speak of. Time to change that, but putting four distillates in a row. Let me start with the youngest, already 30 years old, bottled by A.D. Rattray.

On the dusty and initially prickly nose, I get mostly white and yellow fruit, slightly tropical. Pears, yellow apples, peach and pineapple. Some flowers and grass too. Twig of mint. Quite some oak. Wheated grain cookies with fruit. Teaspoon of honey. The prickly subsides quickly to reveal a somewhat docile, though very pleasant nose. Fresh and clean.

Soft attack with loads of citrus. Just a few spices, but loads of oak (no surprise, this is thirthy years old!). Hay, absolutely, and lemongrass. Some nuts as well. Pepper, cinnamon and again some mint. Becomes more bittersweet after the second sip.

Medium long finish on malt and lemon, with a touch of pepper.

Nice spring whisky that normally is an important part of Ballantine’s. Thanks for the sample, Jurgen. Around 90 EUR which is dirt cheap for a 30 year old whisky.
