We return to the Speyside with this 21 years old Mortlach that was finished on a combo of PX and oloroso sherry seasoned casks.

The umami, meat-like character is not too present on the nose, less than expected at least. Must be the PX putting its foot down, for the nose offers a surprisingly fresh malt with citrus fruit in the lead, followed by chocolate and plums. Dried apricots and candle wax!

On the palate… OMG, this is a monster indeed. The Beast is back! Lots of citrus and raisins, melon and cinnamon.

The finish is spicy, warm and satisfying.

A beautiful malt, but unfortunately quite expensive.
