This 1990 Vintage was announced in November 2013 and is a malt composed of sherry and bourbon cask that previously held heavily peated whisky. This, of course, will give an extra dimension to this 23 Year Old malt.

The nose is sweet and malty with notes of leather, acacia honey, oranges, Granny Smith apples and a mild salty smokiness. It also reminds me a bit of old books, as if I am standing on the not-frequented top floor of an old book shop. A floral element also appears. I think it is quite good.

Punchy on the palate! The attack is even hot and spicy. Big smoke now, holding back the fruit somewhat. The oranges return, zest included, as does the honey. New is the rum raisin note. The spiciness builds up. Vanilla enters and turns the whisky quite sweet Midpalate. This is a complex dram!

The finish is fairly long and holds a nice balance between the sweet fruit on the left and the smoky peat on the right.

A very pleasant surprise, I must say. An odd one out in the Pulteney range, but very much worth your while. Just under 150 EUR.
