In 2011 Old Pulteney released this special edition Row the the Pole in honor of the successful rowing expedition of Jock Wishart and his team. They rowed to the magnetic North Pole, which was a first. The whisky is a vatting of both American and European oak. The casks were selected by Malcolm Waring, the distillery manager.

The nose is fresh and fruity with clear hints of freshly cut grass, white fruit and a sherry influence (think oranges), but with a wonderful smokiness and some brine. You will be transported to the coast. Smells a bit like raw mussels with whipped cream (wtf?). Nice balance. Good nose.

Good mouthfeel. Immediately spicy and sweet with citrus fruit, milk chocolate, sultanas, wonderfully balanced by the salty edge that also offers some woodsmoke. Good stuff.

The finish is rather long, starts off sweet, but ends in a big briny note.

Lovely Pulteney, that remains soft and sweet thanks to the sherry influence. It is sold in 35cl half bottles for around 40 EUR.
