Started the night with a dram of Miyagikyou 10, just finishing my second dram of Nikka from the Barrel, probably end with a glass of Lagavulin 16... @bwmccoy, the Bunnahabhain 13 year sounds great ; )

The Karuizawa 27yr blows away the sh#t I was drinking yesterday as part of our Battle of the Budget Blends (Dewar's White Label, Whyte & Mackay, Islay Mist)...it so makes up for the pain. @CanadianNinja - I am totally in envy of the fact that you have a full bottle of this...

Very pleased to hear that @YakLord! You're really making it VERY difficult to save this one for a special day my friend! ; ) But as you know, I won't be opening this one until that special day comes so I guess I'll just have to wait...

@cjkocher I find the Ardbeg Blasda quite enjoyable. No, it doesn't blow my mind but sometimes mind-blowing isn't in order. it is a good one to introduce folks to Islay's Kildalton Coast.

Just cracked Bladnoch 11 year old sherry cask (current ownership) at 55%.

Much anticipated........and it delivers!!!!!!!!! A little lighter and less rich than the 10 year old ( how I wish I had saved a sample to compare), but great non-the-less.

Of course, every bottling is a single cask offering so there is bound to be variation. But as Ralfy says, batch variation is fine, as long as the QUALITY is consistent.

Forty Creek Flight as a warm up for Canada Day. Opened with Three Grain then moved on to Double Barrel, Confederation Oak, John's Private Cask No.1 and concluded with Port Wood Reserve 2012. It's tough being a patriot.

@CanadianNinja - Thanks. The Bunnahabhain is great. The port finish compliments, without overpowering, the underlying Bunnahabhain character, which still comes through. Very balanced. Tasting note: orange, ginger, butterscotch, hazelnut, pear, plum.

Tonight, Clynelish 14.

Talisker 57deg. North: This time the current release 700ml. bottle and it is a splendid 'drop' but at Au.$128.00 it is not for every day...sadly!

@A'bunadhman - $175 CAD here in Ontario...that's about $180 AUD...I'll pick it up duty free before I pay the LCBO that much for a NAS Special Strength (see my rant, here: dan-the-tax-man.livejournal.com/61223.html)

@A'bunadhman -

1) Midleton 'Very Rare' Au.$240 - $180 CAD; 2) Redbreast 12yo Au.$110 - $55 CAD. Haven't tried either of them, but I'm then again I haven't tried much in the way of Irish whiskey.

"Not when I can get Big Peat for Au.$67.00 and Talisker 10yo. for $68.00." Wow...no Big Peat here at all, and Talisker 10 is $80...seems like you've got the better deal on Talisker, and for some reason, Irish whiskey is cheaper here...

Just bought a bottle of Isle of Skye 8yo and not sure what to think. Very pronounced Highland Park flavor coming through when I was expecting perhaps more of a Talisker-like character. Not a bad thing; just not what I expected. For me, definately a bottle that will require several more additional tastings as I try to get my arms around it's personality.

@cherylnifer, interesting that you and Jim Murray think exactly alike on Isle of Skye 8 yo. His review: "Isle of Skye? Or Orkney?" I like this 8 yo quite a bit. I like the Isle of Skye 12 yo enormously. I consider Isle of Skye 12 yo one of the best whiskies I have ever tasted. (Yes, among all whiskies, not just among blends.)

@cherylnifer listen to @Victor I followed his advice on this one Isle of Skye 8yr is good, but the Isle of Skye 12yr was so outstanding to me that I got another bottle for my cabinet before I was completely through the first one, and now have to wait for the next shipment to come in for some more. My admiral / wife also loves this one. Hope this was helpful. :)
