@Victor has already forgotten a few!

Bowmore 18yo

Longrow CV

and Balcones Brimstone (6/28/13)

So it was really 35 different drams sampled by @Victor. I didn't try a few of the bottles I brought . . . I think my total was more like 31. All that in the space of 23 hours (including sleep).

It was a great time with great conversation. Thank you @Victor for hosting; I am already looking forward to the next time!

@bwmccoy - it must have been a cracker! - you mention only one expression and often you comment on more...why is this one soooo good? It is my favourite.

I'm attending the WODL (Western Drama League) Festival in Windsor this week. Brought the Collingwood 21 YO Rye, the Forty Creek Heart of Gold, and Kilchoman Machir Bay to share some drams with fellow drama and whisky enthusiasts. So far the Collingwood 21 has been the preferred whisky, but still to crack the Kilchoman. On Saturday will be taking a tour of the Canadian Club Heritage Center and tasting some C.C. whiskies.

@faa31: You may have read the a'Bunadh label wrongly, Batch 43 was never released.

Cheers.

Enjoying some Laphroaig QC right now. I love letting this sit on the shelf for a few months then coming back to it. Always delivers.

@A'bunadhman - snap! Found a third of a bottle of Rare Breed hiding and having a dram of this for the first time in a year or so. Beautiful, coarse and spicy.

Giving it a try...

After a couple of days out of town with the family "relaxing", my broken rib still hurts but no anti-inflammatories in over 2 days, and my voice is almost back to normal. So with fewer medications coursing through my veins, and having come in from a bit of shoveling (yes, my wife let the man with a broken rib clear the rest of the driveway after the plows came by), and finally able to breath through my nose, I thought I would try something "warm".

So I've poured myself about 15 cc of Booker's. It's a very pleasant easing back into dramming...

@paddockjudge - Macallan CS always taste great; it's one of my favorites as well. But, for some reason, it tasted even better last night. It was exactly what I was in the mood for.

And going for two....

To reward my nephew for doing most of the shoveling, I offered (and he accepted) to crack my Knob Creek 9 year old single cask.

Wow, after 5 minutes it opens up a lot! Not quite the oily mouthfeel of the Booker's but a really pleasant dram. If Scotch prices open up and Suntori doesn't mess with the mashbill, I think I will have a good backupin Beam...

@Nozinan wonderful to taste some Bookers. Had some for the first time over the holidays late last year. Completely uncut and unfiltered bourbon; smooth yet strong. Thanks for sharing.

Last night was a pour of Redbreast 12 as I was reading the IDL chapter of Kate Hopkins' "99 Drams of Whiskey". Followed that up with one of the last pours from my Signatory UCF 18 yo Clynelish. Added a 1/2 oz or so of each of these bottles to my growing frankenbottle of whisky.

Forty Creek Heart of Gold. Very light and thin mouthfeel next to the Bourbons I had a couple of days ago, but lots of aroma and flavour.

My reward for doing something unpleasant (caught a mouse).

Ballantine's Finest. It fascinates me that this beverage was rated 96 pts by Jim Murray. In the past I have been mainly very unimpressed with Ballantine's Finest, though I do have one friend who likes it very much. It has grown on me somewhat, since, with the passage of time I have become more tolerant of black licorice-dominated whiskies. I still don't see why Mr. Murray calls this "a major work of art".

Double Barrel Reserve - Forty Creek Lot 243. The signature wine notes of a John Hall creation are very prominent in this bourbon barrel finished Canadian blend of rye, barley, and corn whiskies. This bottle has been open for a couple of years and holds up very well.

@CanadianNinja

@Victor, while I certainly wouldn't use the words 'major work of art', I am a big fan of the Ballantine's expressions. The 17 and 21 yo are great whiskies in my opinion. The standard NAS has long had a special place in my heart, it was one of the whiskies that got me interested in whisky ; )

@Victor I wouldn't call it a major work of art either - but for pure value-for-money, it cannot be beat - I do love it.

@talexander, I know I asked you some time ago, at the time you hadn't, but have you had the opportunity to try the Ballantine's 30 yo yet? I have contemplated picking this one up for a while. There are a couple places nearby that carry it. I'd like to get my hands on a bottle of this sooner rather than later ; )
