@CanadianNinja No, I haven't had a chance to pick up the Ballantine's 30 (or try it anywhere!) One day…….one day…...

Still on post-surgery hiatus from alcohol, but I couldn't resist a wee dram of Redbreast 12 for St. Patrick's day tonight. Just a sip to celebrate before my wife's traditional corned beef and cabbage dinner tonight. (She knows how to make it, and I'm still stuffed five hours on.) I miss youse guys and I look forward to returning to Connosr in a few weeks!

4 year Kilchoman (SMWS 129.3 - “Unwind and set your watch to ‘Islay Time’”) while reading an Ian Rankin novel before bed.

@WhiskyBee Hope everything went/goes well and you're back to your dramming ways in good time.
I certainly am a fan of the corned beef and cabbage . I remember organizing the SPD celebrations at university. Wasn't a Whisky drinker then.
I hope you'll stay and read as you recover. I had a few weeks hiatus due to an accident (fell and broke a rib), and although I ccouldn't partake much (even less than usual), I still enjoyed drinking vicariously through everyone else.
Speedy healing....

@Nozinan - Thanks much for the well-wishes. I'm felling fine and hoping I can cheat the doctor's recommendations and ditch the pain killers at least a week early.
Wow, it doesn't take long for the nose and palate to lose practice. A sip a a half tonight, and 40% ABV whisky tastes like cask strength stuff, and my nose is hopeless to get beyond the alcohol.
But, ooohhh....it tasted so good nonetheless. Can't wait to get back into it full-time.

@WhiskyBee @talexander, Irish it is today. I'm surprised so few have posted an Irish dram on St. Paddy's Day.
...So, I'm having one for you @WhiskyBee, Bushmill's 16 three wood ...
...and one for you @talexander, Jameson's Gold Reserve (recommended by @Victor and courtesy of @StevieC) ...
...and a wee dram of Redbreast 12 YO for the rest of the Connosr Clan.
May the hinges of our friendship never grow rusty. And our whiskey never turn musty.

Unless it's a "good kind of musty"... You never know what people will smell in a 60 year old dram....

In honor of St. Patrick's Day 2014, I just finished the last two pours of a bottle of Bushmill's Black Bush that I first purchased upon my return to the U.S. from a trip to Ireland in 2003. That trip started me down the path of Irish Whiskey fan. Fortunately, I have a second bottle that I purchased in reserve at that time. Looking forward to the first pour from that bottle to compare to the last pour of the prior bottle.

I've discovered the secret to Blanton's (Blanton's Gold at least) it's AIR! The more air the better. I am really enjoying a dram of my Blanton's Gold at the moment. I am getting rich honey and mango on the palate…
When I first opened this bottle I was not impressed at all. But as I've gone back to it over these past few months it has consistently gotten better. At the moment I can honestly say it is as good as any bourbon I have had and I will definitely be picking up another bottle. My advice for the Blanton's Gold… give it air, let it breathe and you won't be disappointed.

Ardbeg 10 now and end with laphroaig quarter cask. Spent the weekend with Macallan 18 @ Las Vegas that will be the next bottle I purchase

Just tried in my wedding tux (from {} years ago ) and it fits. I managed to lose enough weight to fit into it for a dinner this weekend!
Celebrating with my first scotch in a while.... I considered a Bladnoch, but I want to see what happens and whom I should toast, so for now it's another craft distiller, Springbank, CS.

Doing a little home blending tonight. Some Islay Mist 8yo, Grants' and Laphroaig . . . over ice. Nice and refreshing.

St. Patrick's Day saw me enjoy a couple of pours of my now two years open bottle of Redbreast 12. It is still awesome, a little water brought some nice citrus zest notes into play. Less than 1/4 of the bottle left (it's only not gone as I am a slow drinker of whiskies). The RB 12 and my Signatory Clynelish 18 yo are likely the next two bottles to be emptied.

Balcones Single Malt. Really enjoy...unique. And even though I live close to this distillery, bottles of their single malt are difficult to get.
Tomorrow if my schedule allows I will attend a Mescal Vago tasting. It will be my first taste of mescal. Looking forward to the experience.

I've been exploring a variety of whisky's over the past 3 years, beginner range to majestic brilliance. There is something about a distilled drink, from liquid to vapour, then spirit. Whisky is an industry of passion, even in the most commercial of companies. Passion lies in the hands of every member of production, and production would not exist if not for the consumers. And by that, we are all members of a universal appreciation for pure, aromatic and palatable genius.
Whisky, Cheers to you!
I just updated my profile and felt proud of what I wrote. Since this seems to be the most popular discussion board, I felt compelled to share my words. Obviously prompted by what I'm drinking now, which happens to be a delicious oatmeal stout from Quebec (beer). But fear not, I intend on following it with a nice dram of Kilchoman 2007 which I picked up in Atlanta Ga last week. And if you've made it this far in my post, cheers to you!

@ewhiskey, I sure do love the beer that comes out of Quebec. In my opinion the vast majority of good Canadian beer is produced in that area of the country. Cheers!

Love the avatar @faa31. It's very nice to see that legislation in the US is finally catching up to common sense. I think the legal production and sale, along with taxation of Marijuana is long, long over due. I only wish that this creates the same positive changes in other parts of the world. Cheers and enjoy the JWB! ; )

A vatting of old bottles: approx. 48% Highland Park 12, 32% Highland Park 18, 20% Tangle Ridge. It is surprisingly good.

Doing a small experiment, comparing a Blackadder Cask strength 10yo Springbank to an official 10yo bottling, will post a review later
