A hearty dram of the newly acquired Benromach 10 yr...Had someone blindfolded me, and handed me the glass - I would swear it was a HP 12 yr.
While certainly not disappointed - was wishing for something a bit 'different'...Oh well - a really nice dram nonetheless.

Introduced my niece to her first IB....my G&M Mortlach for Coop in Calgary. This time I noticed if you add a little water and leave it for 15-20 min it seems to improve a bit. On nosing a few whiffs of potential.
I don't have enough experience with cask characteristics, but I'm wondering if this represents good spirit in a bad cask, and maybe that's why I can't score it high but I seem to want to like it.
I would live to share this with some more experienced Connosr types for their opinions.

@Nozinan
To be clear, I would live even if I couldn't share this whisky. Thanks iPad! But I would LOVE to share it

@Nozinan If that G&M Mortlach is the 15 year old, then I would say yes, it could be good spirit in a poor cask (it seemed overly sulphurous to me. I'm pretty iffy on that bottle, and hit-and-miss on Mortlach in general. I've never tasted their new make so I can't say for sure but that is my gut feeling. I've tasted Macallan new make and it is beautiful, but they've become hit-and-miss as well with poor cask selection.

@talexander This is a Calgary coop exclusive 13 year old. It says refill sherry.
You're welcome to come over and try it....let's set up a time, and perhaps add a few others to the lineup.

Glengoyne Cask Batch #1 @ 58.7 ABV. Almost didn't buy this; as good as it is, an Au.$12.00 price hike is a slug: But then, they have jacked-up G/F 15yo. almost $20.00 and these price rises at a time when there is plenty of Amer. Whiskey heavily discounted. OK, so what to do? 1 liter W/T 43.4% is Au.$50.00, 1 x 700ml. W/T 101 also $50.00 = $100 for 1.75lt. of pretty good Whiskey as opposed to $102.99 for 1 x G/F 15yo. (700ml.) and it gets worse, $180.00 for the current (2013) Laga. Cask. A DE. Caol Ila @ $170.00 and a DE. Laga. $200.00 and @ 43%ABV. only!
Angry? You bet!
Cheers!

@Victor...an awesome weekend indeed. A big thank you to you and your sister for the hospitality.
The Brenne (liquid custard/creme brulee), Bushmills 21 (if that was the bottle end...I gotta get a bottle!), Alchemist Springbank 10 (a 10 year old that sips like it is 15+) , Lemon Hart Rum (black licorice in a bottle), and Nikka Coffey Grain (corn morphing to some wonderful fruit flavours) were the ones that I had never had before, which really stood out.
