Heart of Gold - Dangerously Delicious. This may be John Hall's pinnacle expression.

@Malt-Nuisance > which batch number of Ardbeg Uigeadail are you sipping on (small white lettering on back, near bottom of bottle) ? What would you rate this particular batch ?

@Nozinan, you are correct; at least until September.
I will be extremely pleased if 'Evolution' surpasses H of Gold, from a qualitative perspective.

I introduced my uncle to the Macallan CS today. I savour end mine before and after dinner. Dessert included flambé bananas with Havana Club 7 year old dark rum.
When I decided to share this I was able to draw a link between the rum and the Macallan, but it seems to have slipped my mind. Sorry.

Oh yes...I was thinking about caramel.... I don't know if there is any in the spirits I tasted or cooked with, but I did caramelize the sugar for the flambé. That's where the link was....caramel.

@cherylnifer L13 245. My rating is 88. Nose is sweet rum cake and fresh fruit, green apples. On the palate hot newly set tarmac turning to the ardbeg 10 profile, peat fire on the Atlantic Then a quick hit of sherry, I can relate it to the glenfarlas 10 but with some spice. Irish soda bread raisins are mixed in the middle. Finish is long, smoldered beach fire pit. The longer I sip it the peat subdues, I taste the bourbon, similar to Elijah Craig.

@nosebleed is in town briefly. I took the opportunity to try a small sample of my sample bottle of Amrut Greedy Angels with him.
Thank you again Ashok for providing me this sample when we met in Toronto!
We lingered over our 15 cc pours for about an hour and it continued to develop. Definitely a very unique flavour profile!
After a suitable break to let the flavours diminish, we moved on to the Macallan CS so that he could decide if he wants to pick up the last $73 bottle that was left in the store.

@Lars
Where can you pick up a bottle of Heart of Gold? It's entirely sold out in Ontario!

Port Charlotte- The Peat Project.
Was turned off the nose of the Laddie 10 (Blatant Vomit Nose). Still reminded of it through the Peat Project... anyone else?

@Nozinan At the MLCC we still have about 30 or so bottles available 17 of which are in the city of Winnipeg. Confederation Oak again easily triple the amount in the city. I believe that Manitobans have a loyalty towards Crown Royal first than towards the most economical product available.

@Lars
I looked it up after I asked that question. If only Manitoba were closer to Toronto... I do have a small supply of the HoG, and plans to trade for 2 more, so I should be ok, but still can't help being envious..
Confed Oak is now a standard bottling for FC. So there is lots here too. Have you noticed a difference between the original limited release and the standard release, which I believe uses reconditioned Canadian Oak casks?

@jasonCsaw I was also turned off Laddie 10 at first and for the same reason.. Let it rest for a couple of weeks and try it again. It soon became a favourite dram of mine (good price while it was available here, NCF and 46%,rich creamy mouthfeel). Alas it is now discontinued. And yes I get a some of the same notes from the Peat Project but am going to pick up two more of that one today.

@jasonCsaw I call that Bruichladdich note "baby vomit" but I've never detected it in the Laddie 10 (which I love) - but I've noticed it in many other 'Laddichs - unfortunately.

Thanks for the input! Any other bottles come to mind that I should steer clear of? @talexander

@Jonesz Thanks for the Input! Any other bottles you'd recommend I stay away from?

@Nozinan
Hmmmm did not realize that Confederation Oak was still being made the ones we have here are lot numbered and number up to 16000. Is that first batch still?
11 years ago 0
@Lars
I think the original is lot 1867 and the following standard bottling a are 1867-A( or, B,C) and the bottles are not numbered.
I think @paddockjudge, who has been recently silent on this, is more of an expert and might be able to illuminate us.

Glengoyne Cask Strength Batch #001 @ 58.7% Alc/Vol. This is a fantastic Oloroso-casked Whisky that in any company is a true heavyweight; right in there with the A'bunadh's, G/F105's, Macallan's et al. My local liquor warehouse has lots and for some reason it is not walking out the door; perhaps the price hike has killed sales but brilliant it is, nonetheless!

Clynelish 14yo, my first whisky in two weeks. I expected to find some good whisky as I got closer to the Scottish border, as I spend my vacation in Yorkshire. It was quite disappointing: limited range of available whiskies and overpriced independent bottlings. I just spend my week drinking Brewdog and diverse ciders

@jasonCsaw The Bruichladdich Organic is the most baby-vomity. I found the 18 year old (batch 1) a weird mix of too oaky and that same note again (though more in the background). But I don't drink much from that distillery as I find it so hit-and-miss.

@A'bunadhman, yeah that batch 001 is something, huh? Very much its own style of sherry bomb.

@talexander...I second your mention of Bruichladdich Organic having a baby vomit note...only whisky that I have really picked that up from...so far.

I am currently enjoying Tomintoul 16 year old. This is a really smooth whisky and seems to be quite different to the 10 yo
