Highwood Centennial Limited Edition Canadian Whisky. Wheat and Rye grains. This bottle has been open now for 4 1/2 years and I am enjoying it the most I ever have since I first opened it. I thought about giving this bottle away to my father-in-law, but I think now I may keep it for myself awhile longer.

Glencadam 14 Year Old Oloroso Sherry Cask Finish.

A pleasant and clean malt that is moderately spicy and oaky. Fresh sweet nose with a finish that has good length. A good all-rounder as an everyday malt.

Yeah this particular Rest and Be Thankful bottling is quite impressive. Would have never guessed that a peaty malt would work well with white wine cask maturation.

Open-bottle regimen?

Ah...read the initial post, got it. Well mate, if it works for you - I suppose why not? I'm not one to judge the lifestyle choices of others.

No worries. :)

Tonight it is a trio of aged peat.

Bowmore 18yo - a wonderful balance of fruit and peat, but sadly very boring.

Laphroaig 18yo - My bottle is a mix of tropical fruits and peat. It is very weird. I can't say I love it, but it is interesting. A nice change of pace from standard Laphroaig 10yo. I am so glad they released it at 48% instead of anything lower.

BenRiach 17yo Septendicem - I am surprised at how peaty this is at this age. This is a wonderful non-Islay peat monster. It has a wonderful nose. It just isn't as deep and complex as the Bowmore and Laphroaig. And at 46% I wish it were bigger. Still, very lovely and fits right in.

these days I have the following bottles in my liquor cabinet: Clynelish 22 First Ed, Glenrothes 18 Exclusive Cask, Longrow 18.

What I need to open is a strong peaty bottle. I am debating opening a bottle that Nock recommended. It has one of his most famous ID numbers on it. Nock is absolutely brilliant when it comes to pointing one in the direction of a fine Ardbeg.

Or . . . I may go buy a Machir Bay in a little bottle to try it. This is the only heavily peated scotches available in a small bottle in my state. It's really quite a shame there aren't more of them. I absolutely LOVE having the opportunity to taste fine scotches in a little bottle before springing for a bigger one.

DID YE HEAR THAT YE GOODE AND VENERABLE DISTILLERIES? SEND MORE ONE HIT WONDERS (50 ML BOTTLES) TO TH E UNITED STATES! WE DESERVE LIL' BOTTLES HERE SO THAT WE CAN MAKE INFORMED DECISIONS ABOUT HOW WE LAY DOWN OUR NEXT HUNDRED DOLLAR BILL ON A FULL SIZED BOTTLE OF WHISKY.

Tonight I'm having the last few drops from my bottle of Uigeadail. The smoke has long since faded but the nose is still quite amazing. This is definitely one to put on my "to-buy list".

Paid a visit to the local distillery to pick-up a couple of bottles of limited release bottlings and enjoyed some more lovely limited release Melbourne brews.

images.tapatalk-cdn.com/15/10/…

Also an "experimental" that is yet to be released - taken straight from the cask.

Pure PX-Cask goodness, a full blown dessert with every sip.

Excellent hospitality and simple charm.

With the wife and children out of the country till tomorrow, I've had a chance to sit down with a few samples and do some reviews.

Watching some movies on Netflix (Secret Life of Walter Mitty - Ben Stiller version, now Blood and Ties - Korean movie) which helps pass the time between pouring and nosing, water and nosing, etc...

So far, Cutty Sark Prohibition and Nikka 17 YO pure malt. 2 winners so far. And if I can get to it...Glenfarclas 15.

Connemara Cask Strenth. This is my favourite Connemara, including the Turf Mor. Next, an uncharacteristically unmarked sample from 3 years ago from @MarsViolet. I think it is probably Laphroaig 10 CS. @MarsViolet, we three here miss your Connosr participation, and tasting with you.

glendronach 12, my favourite "daily dram", if i have one.

of the three bottles i've purchased over the last couple years, this is by far the best batch. fantastic stuff, for my taste at least. i didn't record the previous bottle codes, but i do know they were 2013 bottlings. for anyone interested, this bottle reads 2014/12/01 09:30 LH31433. hard to find value for money these days, but i will definitely be on the hunt for more of this juice.

happy thanksgiving, all....

@thecyclingyogi: I've reserved one Original (2010) and two Revivals (2011) at the store I frequent, not the target years that I'd like but will take what I can get ...

@Tom92: well, it's my first sherry pick so there's no way to compare with another one yet but I bought two bottles after taking a sample sip at the store (for reference, my first bottle was the Doublewood 12, which I really didn't like) ... I'm down to less than a quarter left after only five sittings ...

Kornog sauternes cask, Yamazaki distiller's reserve, Ardbeg 10, Caol Ila 12, Arran 10, Highland Park 12. First time for a taste of the Kornog and it's very good:) The Yamazaki however, stands out with its subtle balance and big body.

@paddockjudge, that was nice of the Rangers to commit three errors in the 7th inning. I had to read about it. We didn't get the game on TV here. The Jays remain alive. How about that? A toast of Wiser's 18 to the Toronto Blue Jays!

@Victor, Yes, thank you Rangers. Performance under pressure, or in this case, underperforming under pressure. Joet Bats, with a three run homer, buried the visitors. A tip of the hat to Toronto with a pour Danfield's 21 YO, a large pour in a Canadian Glencairn.

@Nozinan, the Jay's did last longer than my pour of Gibson's Finest 18 YO Venerable.

How does one "prime a bottle", I wonder.

I got off the phone with front-runner opponent, and having finished my last debate yesterday, it was definitely time for a dram. Booker's 2015-01 1:1 with Amrut single bourbon cask and 1 drop of water. It makes me wonder what Amrut would taste like matured in a first fill Booker's barrel.
