Last night my uncle and I polished off the last 2 drams of his Talisker 10. I'll have to seriously consider buying a bottle of it myself. It is 45.8%, full of flavour. But at just shy of $100 I'll wait till a duty free alternative shows itself.

Tonight I'm revisiting the nikka from the barrel. Talk about a blend worth it's price!

@Nozinan unbelievable price for the ten. Over here it's £27 on offer in supermarkets or 32 Euro's online. It's probably the expression I've bought most of as my 'daily dram' !. My condolences to Canadian drammers!'

At the moment I'm in blending mode. A few months ago I bought myself a bottle of 8 year old Invergordon single grain whisky at 63.4% abv. It's a nice enough whisky but a little bit too sweet for my liking so I decided to blend with it and I'm glad I did. I started off mixing 25ml of grain and 15 ml of an unnamed Islay malt at 60% abv. This worked out really well and gave me the chance to try out a high end blend of my own making.Next I decided to try a sherried blend and I again mixed 25ml of grain with 15 ml of Abunadh. This one didn't work as well as my peated blend but it was still very drinkable indeed. Inspired I moved on to a Port Charlotte blend which was again excellent and then to a Talisker 57 blend which was my favourite of the lot! It was very educational to taste single malts I new so well in a blend environment. It's fascinating how the profile of each malt changed with the introduction of the grain whisky but still remained familiar. The only other single grain whisky I have left is a supposedly good unopened 27 year old Strathclyde. I'm just starting to formulate some high end blending plans for that one.

I must put my latest blending experiment online because it's worked so well. 25mls of Invergorden single grain together with 20mls of Big Peat Christmas Edition 2014. The blend is actually better than the Big Peat on its own, its really tasty stuff and I'll be having another one of these for sure. Next up I'll be blending with some Bowmore Tempest Batch 5 . Hope it's a good one!

Celebrating our new Liberal majority government, our new (and 2nd) Prime Minister Trudeau, and the kick-in-the-ass to Harper and his bonehead Conservatives - with a Canadian Club 100% Rye, Crown Royal Monarch and a Cadenhead's 24yo single cask Indian corn from Kelowna. Plus the Jays won again.

Yeah, well, I lost. Though my riding didn't lose as great a share as the federal party. But I had a good time on the campaign.

Drowned my sorrows tonight with ice water.

But I did give my campaign manager a bottle of Writer's Tears 2013 bottling at 53% (CS) to drown his sorrows. He is of Irish descent and liked the 40% version I gave him for his birthday last year.

And to the winner, my new member of parliament, I gave one of my two bottles of A'Bunadh batch 42 (life, universe and everything), because he likes scotch, is an extremely decent human being, and this is, of course, the 42nd parliament!

@talexander, that's a Western Canada Trifecta. Two scintillating Single Grains and a beauteous blend. Cadenhead's Indian Maize from British Columbia, CC 100% Rye from Alberta (ADL), and CR Monarch 75th Anniv. from Gimli, Manitoba.

Gooderham & Worts Four Grain, Legacy influence with sweet wheat. Another fine Canadian at 44% abv. Definitely a Wiser's Legacy base, possibly some sweeter corn along with the wheat. I'd buy a case...soon.

Attended a Whisky Society "Desserts & Drams" event at a local bar. 5 drams, 3 of them were paired with desserts.

a 9 year Glengoyne (SMWS 123.13) from a first fill ex-bourbon barrel. Very good and flavorful.

a 17 year Auchroisk (SMWS 95.19) from a refill ex-bourbon hogshead paired with a chai cheesecake. While not bad, the Auchroisk was my least favorite whisky of the night. To me, it was OK, but lacking. Loved the cheesecake though.

a 25 year Glentauchers (SMWS 63.31) from a refill ex-bourbon barrel paired with bread pudding. This was very good. Enjoyed the whisky more than the dessert.

a 15 year Highland Park (SMWS 4.203) from a first fill ex-bourbon barrel paired with a brownie topped with whisky infused ice cream and whisky caramel sauce. Very good whisky and best dessert of the night.

Finished with a 22 year Caol Ila (SMWS 53.211) from a refill ex-bourbon barrel. Excellent! Best dram of the night.

I have only ever tried Maker's Mark to compare against this but I think this is more my taste as it is a little less sweet.

@sengjc I've been on a bourbon kick these past few several months, and finally I got myself a Wellers Reserve (decent but nothing fantastic), and a Wellers Antique 107 (really nice).

Truth be told - I'm still a bit partial to the Maker's Mark - in particular the Maker's 46, and Maker's Mark Cask Strength expressions...Those 2 are top notch bourbons, and for me - they're easy to find (had to purchase the Wellers from an online retailer).
