@OlJas - I haven't had a Laphroaig 10 CS in a very long time (years), so I don't believe that I can"t give you a good comparison to that one. I really like Corryvreckan, but prefer Uigeadail and Supernova more. Comparing PC7 to Correyvreckan, I would gladly drink either one, but PC7 would be my preference. I'm a huge fan of the PC series. Hope that helps.

Tonight, started off with Highland Park 15 year (SMWS 4.203) - "Romantic Tales, Songs and Whispers". Stupid name, but great whisky!

Finishing up with a Bruichladdich Octomore 04.2 Comus (5 year old) 167ppm. Absolutely wonderful!

Last night I made a.major dent in my bottle of Four Roses Single Barrel DN 34-4C. It's truly one of the nicest Bourbons I've ever had.I just wish I knew the exact recipe so I could get more of it.I also opened my recent acquisition of 9 year old Craigellachie at 57.8%ABV.I was so impressed by it I ordered another 2 bottles at 34 pounds each.I also added 2 bottles of 9 year old Fettercairn and 1 bottle of 18 year old Benrinnes to the order.I love ordering from Whiskybroker because in this day and age he offers unrivalled value for money!

@bwmccoy , thanks. Corryvreckan and Laphroaig 10 CS are a couple of my regular favorites, and I got a PC7 in the stash that I'll probably open next winter. I'm just looking forward to it enjoying a little vicarious taste through your post.

Introduced my brother's nephew to bourbon. Booker's 2015-01 is a good start. I was left in the bottle after decanting and there was none left for me so I went with OGD 114...

Good Friday Rye day, Rittenhouse 100 then to Yellow Rose Rye (excellent buy at the reduced $35 price tag), Masterson's Rye, Millstone 100 Rye (love this earthy rye). Will top it off later with a 2012 Thomas Handy and then watch the rest of the NCAA March Madness.

Every one in a while I open my cabinet where my Benromach 100/10 stands and I'm reminded how much I wanted to get my hands on a bottle of this. I'm really looking forward to trying it in a few months...

Finally cracked open the Kavalan Amontillado/Manzanilla cofre and set to on the Amontillado. I purchased the set on a short sojourn in France, much to my wife's annoyance given the bulkiness of the packaging. It has one of the most powerfully sherry noses I've ever experienced, fortunately not quite so strongly reflected on the palate. I'll enjoy it I think, though the 50cl bottle is a real bugbear.

At the moment, I am sipping on a dram of Bunnahabhain 12yo, and I might do a repeat or I might move to either the 12yo or 15yo GlenDronach.

@maltmate302, OBSV is the standard recipe used by Four Roses for its 100 proof Single Barrel; 35% rye in the mash and a yeast strain that produces a delicate fruitiness. This is delicious whiskey and one which is difficult to find 11 out of 12 months in Ontario.

@OlJas - It is one of the most unique and amazing Springbank's that I have ever tasted. It's from a refill ex-sherry gorda cask. Sweet, salty and savory. Unfortunately, the bottle is almost empty. Really going to miss this one.

Tonight, I had a dram of Laphroaig 15 year (July 1999) SMWS 29.166 “Elementary, my dear Watson”. So good - ash, smoke and lime from a refill ex-bourbon barrel.

@paddockjudge thanks very much for the information. I actually found out that OBSV was the recipe yesterday while reading a Q&A with the Four Roses people. It came as a little bit of surprise to me as I'd convinced myself that my current bottle was superior to the first one I had. I originally thought that they were picking honey barrels from the 10 different recipes to use as FRSB but you live and learn. We can both agree that it is wonderful whiskey though. I'm getting it at a great price these days , 26 euros from Holland compared to 39 pounds in the UK!

@paddockjudge, I so much prefer the Four Roses "OB", 35% rye content, whiskeys to their "OE" 20% rye content ones that I wish that Four Roses would put that information right on their Single Barrel bottles. Standard Four Roses Single Barrel bottles usually just have that opaque warehouse barrel location information. Thanks again for checking with them, finding out, and reporting to us this information. i would not be surprised to see Four Roses Single Barrel become an allocated whiskey in the US in the near future. It is certainly one of the best products for the money on the US shelves at the current time. It is easy for me to imagine world demand for this one outpacing production of new supply.

@Victor please don't give anyone any ideas... It might get hard to keep my closet full ;)... My half full bottle needs a backup or 2 for sure. This is always one of my go to's. I prefer the high rye recipe too, and look for it at shops with labels that indicate the recipe

The five years since my joining Connosr have passed so quickly.

Tonight I'm revisiting an old friend, my gateway single malt, Bushmills 21 Rare. I was introduced to this beauty by a friend who enthusiastically supported my indulgence in great Canadian whisky. We shared many drams on countless road trips after a day of coaching or supporting local youth sports teams. A friend of his from Fiji, or perhaps South Africa, gifted him a bottle of this Irish beauty to wish him well in his new home, Canada. While on an annual pilgrimage to Waterloo, ON (at one time the home to Seagram's ancient Coffey still) he graciously shared with me this masterpiece of wine-finished single malt. I was immediately hooked at first taste, just as I was with Connosr.

My education in, and enjoyment of whisky has been greatly enhanced by the Connosr community. At one time I would refer to them as my 'whisky buddies', five years on, they are now my friends.

This year will see a collection of Connosr members gather in Albuquerque, New Mexico for a weekend of conviviality and enthusiastic imbibement. This is by no means the first or even the largest gathering of the Connosr community, but it is significant as it is the first open call to all of the Connosr community to gather together and celebrate our common interest.

Jean-Luc and Pierre, thank you for providing a forum where like-minded people can enjoy each others company while discussing their enjoyment of whisky and whiskey.

Cordially,

Mark

Happy 5th Anniversary! I'm very happy you joined Connosr because your input on and around the website have expanded my appreciation for whisky immensely (and cost me a small fortune...). Without your input I would never have tried Macallan CS, a number of Japanese whiskies, and my only Canadian whisky would have been Forty Creek Confederation Oak. Not to mention my collection of bourbons...

Thanks again and see you at future tastings!
