@maltmate302 , if you like the @paddockjudge in writing, you'll love him in person. He even impresses my wild 73 yo sister with his hard-core-ed-ness. Which is something.

@Victor I'd love the opportunity to meet @paddockjudge .Hopefully I'll get the chance to meet many of Connosr's North American members in the future, possibly on a tour of Islay's distilleries. That would be most enjoyable!

@maltmate302, but, when you meet the @paddockjudge, you had better be prepared to drink a lot of Canadian whisky! When you are face to face with The Defender of the Faith of Canadian Whisky,..There Will Be Canadian Whisky.

@paddockjudge a belated toast to your 5th anniversary here with your favourite single malt, Macallan CS. From the bottle you gave me to introduce me to this elixir in 2014.

I've just had a dram of the new Lagavulin 8.It doesn't have the big beefy iodine seaweed bash of its older sibling but it is instead a milder sweeter version whilst still being unmistakably Lagavulin! ! A tiny drop of water opens this dram up nicely and delivers the classic Islay notes. Anybody who's hesitating on buying a bottle of this should think again, it's truly a very good example.

I can feel the onset of a cold coming, hoping this will fortify my vitality somewhat. ;)

Just cracked a Macallan 25 YO, followed by a dram of my freshly opened Black Bowmore. Now that I've opened them, I can't understand what all the fuss was about....

@Nozinan You should have held off on the "April Fools!" to see what the responses would have been like...

Just opened my new 50cl bottle of a whisky simply called Peat a new release from Speciality Drinks, the whisky exchange people, in the Elements of Islay range. What an absolutely beautiful dram not as heavily peated as I was expecting but it had a wonderful soft sweetness to it.Serge gave this one an 89,I would mark it higher!

Just opened a bottle of the Single Malt Yoichi NAS at 45% ABV. From the first dram, after opening, not at all disappointing. I suspect after some time and air find their way into the bottle this will be a different whisky than what I just experienced. This isn't to imply my first dram was a let down. Not at all. For many Yoichi lovers, especially the 10yo, you might be asking about the peat and the smoke and the leather. Those characteristics are still there, but subtle. This whisky doesn't have any one dominant character to it. For me, this SMW is all about being a subtle adventure and exploration into the layers of flavors.

Just finishing a pour of my 'baseball whisky' Aberlour Abunad'h batch 47 to accompany my viewing of the Toronto Blue Jays baseball season opening victory. I opened this bottle during last years playoffs, having a pour every time the Blue Jays or Chicago Cubs won a game. I have enjoyed this bottle, but have found that it needs some water and a fair amount of time in the glass to fully hit its stride.

Fully agreed @Pudge72. I find that particular Aberlour to handle water incredibly well!

Balvenie 15 Single Barrel 47.8%at a restaurant and it was just alright in my opinion. Maybe it had to do with the price and it was hard to pick out flavor profiles. Also I believe 15 Sherry Cask would been more to my liking but wasn't available.
At home had Macallan 12 43% now that went down well. Glad I have another one bottle stored away.

Buddy and me drinking a dram each of my Bookers 2015-5. Tasty!!!
Too bad I have less than a third of bottle left. Thanks to this site just confirmed Bookers is good. I believe paddockjudge made rave reviews and a couple others as well and thought the packaging is neat, age is stated and it high Abv. Let's see if it meets the final criterias and well it did.

I've been drinking a 9 year old pair of whiskies from Craigellachie and Fettercairn. They both have the dates of distillation and bottling, NCF and no caramel , cask strength at 57.8% and 55.6% and they are both quite wonderful with a bit of air in the bottle. I have actively avoided Fettercairn before but this bourbon cask example is very good indeed. It actually tastes like a refill sherry cask.

Right now I am not drinking anything cause it is early morning and I am at work. Yesterday, however I had a dram of Glendronach 25 yo Grandeur. This is by far the best sherried whisky I ever tasted in my 30+ years of conscious drinking and I have tried a lot. It is pricy, but worth every penny! Cheers!

@paddockjudge Hey, 5 years here, I guess congrats. Really!
@Nozinan And I'm still at the "My only Canadian whisky is Forty Creek Confederation Oak" stage. Weird...I'll spend good money for a bourbon or scotch I've never tried, because I've had enough very good bourbons & scotches...but I'm reluctant to buy a (much less expensive) bottle of Canadian, as I have yet to try one that is truly good, other than Forty Creek products (which, I've read, are a bit of an anomaly in the Canadian industry).

@Spitfire You mean you have never tried one you truly liked?(More of a personal taste that stating "truly good"

@Astroke
Canadian whisky is extremely variable. There are some stunners (Forty Creek Heart of Gold, AP 30 - ok, also 25 @Paddockjudge, Highwood 90/20) and there are some real duds. It is very possible that @Spitfire has only tried the ones that are no good...

Went to the Whisky Society's tasting room in London today.
First had an 11 year Dailuaine from a 1st fill ex-bourbon barrel. 41.68 "Liquified 'Bounty bars'".
Followed by a 25 year Bladnoch from an ex-bourbon barrel. 50.77 - "Good old days"
Finished up with a 17 year Ardmore from a refill ex-sherry Gorda. 66.82 - "Gritty-turned-pretty".
They were all really good, but the Ardmore was to die for.

@Nozinan I guess if all I ever tasted was McClelland's I may come to the conclusion that all Scotch was "no good". But there are enough in-depth reviews of premium Canadian Whiskey on this site to get an idea of what may be right for anybody wanting to branch out. I did not mean to put the ? at the end of the original comment. Was intended to be a smart ass re-phrase:)
