savouring my first dram since the summit to end all summits last weekend. Benromach 100/10, quite a fine dram when not rushed or crowded out by the other 39 selections I sampled...

A dram of Canadian made Urban Craft Single Malt, followed by a dram of Compass Box Spice Tree. Both good, not great, whiskies.

Pleased to see another person who enjoys some Overeem, I personally enjoy their Port Cask - Cask Strength bottlings but they have become very rare these days and very expensive too. I suppose it is understandable as the Australian whisky industry is young and basking in the global limelight at the moment.

Aussie whisky tends to be bright and fruity with emphasis on sherry or wine cask maturation fuelled by a healthy supply of fresh casks from an established local wine industry - it's a wonder why the big distilleries in Scotland do not source more used barrels from Australia but only look to Spain for their sherry cask needs.

Try Starward from the New World Whisky distillery, it's brewed in my home city of Melbourne. Diageo's recently bought into this young distillery - a little success story and one that I am quite proud of since I have followed this distillery's steps since their first release batch: businessinsider.com.au/johnnie-walkers-owne…

It's just a matter of time before their bottles start appearing all over the world.

@sengjc I got mine Old Hobart thru masters of malt. It cost me $200 but I think it is worth the money, wonderful juice. Sengjc, thanks for the referral, I am not familiar with this particular Melbourne whisky, but I will be on the lookout

@Nelom I see you are enjoying Knob Creek. I have never been thrilled by it, it's just too raw and "corny" for me. Even the 9 yo that you are referring to is still too harsh.Recently they released a 15 yo Ltd edition, which is also 100 %proof, but at least is old and more oaky, which dampers the harsh notes and does not ignite my palate. It is quite pricey however- $140-150 a bottle. Wonder if you have a chance to try it and what do you think about it?

@FieldMarshal Glad to hear.

Have you had other A'bundah's? Personally have only had #49 and #52. Both are very good but give the edge to #49. Good thing I own the #49.

A private bottling of Swedish BOX whisky, Glendronach parliament 21yr and I also had the good fortune to try the 2010 Ardbeg supernova. The Ardbeg I found very powerful. It had probably been open for a while so the smoke wasn't that extreme but it was very good. Full of tangy pineapple and citrus.

After a brutal work week and a dry one at that, a dram of Compass Box Oak cross and Bowmore Devil's Cask III, the latter I find has really mellowed out in the last 1/2 of the bottle, much more dark dried fruits and lubricated engine parts.

I love it! Having been open for awhile it had developed waxy note that I'm not too fond of but other than that its lovely! A dry, full on sherry blast!

Thanks I will have to try it again my next club meeting, the first time I was underwhelmed but I think it's because I was still on a honeymoon with GD15.

@zanzog I haven't had the pleasure of the 15 YO Knob Creek, and in the past I haven't even been that big of a fan of the 9 YO. I don't know if the bottle has opened up a bit over the past while, or if I was just in a particularly good whisky-mood last time I had it, but that last pour was really quite something. I guess I'll find out the next time I have a glass.

@paddockjudge I will settle for a Masterson's Rye batch 005 (Last bottle opened tonight) and Whistle Pig 10 yr, on their own. They follow a Rendezvous Rye and EHT Rye already finished.

Happy Ardbeg Day.

This is a fabulous bottling, sherried and peaty, harmoniously balanced with just enough sweetness. A little different to the Uigeadail which has a bit more sweetness on the palate and "roughness" - a more refined and grown-up Uigeadail.

I would like to get more but I think it is only fair to let others have a go.

@OlJas - unfortunately, I do not have anymore PC7 in the cabinet, but I got that bottle earlier this year from a liquor store in Spokane, WA, so hopefully there will still be some the next time I'm there visiting family.

Hanging out with my brother-in-law tonight, started with a peated Pale Ale from Islay Ales (made from peated grist from Kilchoman). Brought a bottle back from Scotland last month.

Followed by Craigellechie 19 year old travel retain exclusive 1 liter picked up at Heathrow last month,

Followed by 23 year Linkwood (SMWS 39.99) (Apr. 1990) "Springtime in Andalucia",

Followed by 9 year Linkwood (SMWS 39.95) (2004) "Caressing, warm and friendly",

Followed by 21 year Glen Scotia (SMWS 93.57) "Yo-ho-ho and a bottle of this!",

Finished the night by killing off my bootle of 15 year Springbank (SMWS 27.104) (May 1998) "Cowboy's Delight".

Celebrating 2 birthdays, @TAlexander and @Paddockjudge, with 2 drams.

Now I don't like to play favourites, so I won't say which dram is for whom. But they are Bowmore Tempest batch 5 and batch 6. Reviews will be up shortly.

I've just added water and in a few minutes I'll complete my tasting notes. After that I will pour them together to create batch 5.5, and will focus on the holistic enjoyment of the experience, or, given the time, pour away what I can't finish tonight back into the sample bottle to do battle with it another day.

@Victor - I completely agree with you! They must have some great casks as well. I would swear the 23 year old was from a Sherry cask, but it's an ex-bourbon hogshead. Sweet (brown sugar) and slightly salty.

Happy Birthday @paddockjudge and @talexander

Starting tonight with an 18 year Rosebank (1991) - from Gordon and MacPhail

Today Lagavulin distiller's edition bottled in 1997 (16 yo) I love that bottle, simply astonishing!!! As the Man (Jim Murray) said in his whiskey bible: "Two toned peat battling buttery kippers for supremacy; salty, soft and seemingly with some kind of indecipherable fruit number lurking in the near opaque background. Probably the silkiest delivery you'll come across. Voluptuous, moist date drowned in smoke descends into a molassed mass. The nose deserves a legendary status and its presence on the palate offers something exceptional" Hugely enjoyable!!!
