@BlueNote, thanks for the clarification, i suppose it's a bit like the experience of some Irish whiskys when coming off heavy bodied single malts.

Benromach single cask, 2009 first fill bourbon 59.4%abv. I gave in to the little voice in my head whispering that if I don't taste it now, it will be too late to replace it when I do.
It's definitely got parallels to the Ben10, the apricots, the shoe Polish waxyness, and the leafy earthy side. The palate has lots of honey and clay, strangely heavy and fresh at once. It got frazzled with water.

@cricklewood on its own merits! I haven't had it head-to-head with another springbank of any variety. Personally I'd much rather go with the wine finish. But then again i love longrow matured in Port...

Currently sipping some Eagle Rare 10 YO while reading the political hot potato Fire and Fury. I opened this bottle tonight and so far it's an OK pour. A bit to perfumy for my liking, but I'm really digging the toffee notes which seemingly linger forever in my mouth.

I wonder whether the good folks at Springbank ever consider just ditching the whole Hazelburn line. It seems rather out of step with the other whiskies they make, and you never really hear anybody express any enthusiasm for the stuff.

The Hazelburn 12yr is fantastic...it's just not worth the pricetag.

The deal closed and I no longer own the home that my kids grew up in. on the bright side I can start to pay down what I owe for the house I grew up in, which will soon be the house my kids grew up in.
I went by to the old house tonight to remove one large piece of "furniture" and met the only. Seems like a really nice fellow. not sure if he drinks scotch though (if he does...that will be great!). Has twins, younger than my kids. also found some overlapping professional interests.
I'm hoping he and his family will enjoy their new home, their first house in Canada I believe.
I think Legacy really is an appropriate whisky for the occasion, but I still have the remnants of a cold, so just a few sips tonight.

Port Charlotte SB - I've been doing some experiments at work where you make stalagmites out of salt water. Only problem is I've now made the already damp atmosphere like being at the seaside.
There was only one choice as I can't get the taste of salt out of my mouth . .

I still haven't had a chance to review anything in 2018. Any suggestions? (must be available at the LCBO and not crazy-unicorn expensive...)

@talexander - What about this Lambertus I've heard so much about?

@RianC That which you request is Herculean in nature.

@talexander Perhaps one of the new Highland Park releases (Magnus, Full Volume, Valkyrie)? I believe they are readily available at LCBO, if you like Highland Park that is.

@talexander Did you not acquire a bottle of Johnnie Walker Island Green? Or was the sample you gave me all that was left of it?
I'm happy to part with some Lambertus or Turv Exloo if you want to do that to yourself...

@Nozinan I do have the whole bottle (minus two drams) so that's an option, yes....
6 years ago 0
@talexander Have you tried it? I just had a little last month and it seemed quite promising.
6 years ago 0
@Nozinan Yes, I liked it. Some nice smoke to it, though a bit thin. I want to try it side-by-side with the standard JWGreen.
6 years ago 0
@talexander Do you have the standard Green? I happen to have an almost full bottle, opened a few weeks ago.

@Nozinan I have an older edition in the vault, but need to buy another of the newer edition (I had a bottle of the newer edition and quite liked it).

@talexander On first (and only) taste (last month), I would say it's good but definitely different from the Island Green. I'm happy to share if you don't want to shell out for a whole bottle just to compare.

@Nozinan Thanks! But I don't mind shelling out, I do like it. I'm under the weather right now so now tasting or reviews until I'm better!

@talexander - Get well soon!
I've just popped the cork on my Kilchoman Machir Bay (due to the Laga 8 going back in the cupboard for a while). I've sat with it for about twenty minutes or so and have had a few sips.
Loving this so far - especially the smokey finish.

@RianC, in my experience, Kilchoman Machir Bay kicks Lagavulin 8's ass. Enjoy!

I’m having a cup of herbal tea my wife concocted for me, as I’m fighting off a cold. I haven’t had any whisky since Sunday.

@OdysseusUnbound, I too have been battling a bug all week. I forced down a Wiser's Legacy last night. I'm quickly running short of ginger and lemons.

@paddockjudge I found Legacy went down surprisingly soothingly as I was getting over my cold Tuesday.

@Nozinan, Legacy is an amazing whisky. I hope we see a doppelgänger from Wiser's on the shelf soon.

@talexander All this talk about JW Green.....
So tonight I'm no longer sick, no longer on call, the kids are in bed. My work is done (having a fellow do all the notes is great). The fire is crackling on the fireplace (channel). I'm very much enjoying this second dram from my bottle. 1 drop of water.
Sometimes you just don't need a CS single malt...

A blasphemous end-of-the-evening Manhattan comprised of Gooderham & Worts 1832 Decanter (distilled 1948), Dolin vermouth, Angostura bitters and a Jack Rudy Bourbon Cocktail cherry. Deep umami notes of beef bovril, black cherry, charred oak, smoked paprika, cloves and mulled red wine. Go ahead, judge me. Judge me harshly.
