Opened my first bottle of Yamazaki 12 this evening and watched 2 movies. Arr, that stuff is nice!, great balance with softness and a bit wood and smoke. Its a bit to easy drinking to be a classic maybe but i love yamazaki and is eager to try more japanese whiskies.

Just got home after cycling from work 11 miles (18 km) in a cold rain 43 F (6 C). Showered and now warming up with a Glenmorangie Nectar D'Or. Is making the day a whole lot better.

Can't get anything but the QC here. Sigh. Fortunately the QC is bloody brilliant.

At the moment...Talisker 10.

Enjoying a tipple of Bushmills 12 Year Old Select Casks (Caribbean Rum finish) as an aperitif.

Well if I can use the R-word on this site, I'm trying some fairly decent Dominican Republic Brugal Anejo Rum. Not aged in rum casks, but in Jack Daniels barrels. I have better rums, but this is surprisingly good, quite cheap, and it somehow received a WE 90-95 rating. Just wanted something different.

I've got a bottle of Wild Turkey Rare Breed with 2 or 3 drams left in so I'm finishing that up tonight. Just had one, and mixing it up a bit with a Redbreast 12yr (not in the same glass, you understand). Cheers.

After priming my palate with a bit of Springbank 10 (both old and new) and Talisker 18, I am tasting, and tasting, my newly acquired Macallan Cask Strength (white label NAS, 59.3%). Drink it straight, (water dulled it for me), take small sips, and let it percolate and trickle down when it is ready. Oh my ... this is a conversation stopper ... absolutely delightful ... lovely nose, deeply sweet sherry flavor, creamy and smooth, with a really long warm and satisfying finish. OK, after returning to reality ... we have to compare this to A'bunadh #28, which I had last time felt was too agressive. But this time, it is also deeply sweet and satisfying, with a rich, long, warm finish ... with spices, but drier, more macho, and having a bit of musk or old leather ... but better each sip. Definitely a respected competiter, but I'll have another Macallan, please. Oh, there's an encore ... did you get a whif of the empty glasses ...

@AboutChoice I'm glad to hear you've tucked into the Macallan cask strength. As per your suggestion, I plan to write (yet another) A'bunadh review, for batch 28. As it stands, I'm leaning more towards the A'bunadh—what that nose delivers, I could absolutely bathe in—but I'll have to taste a few more times to be sure.

Yesterday evening, I added a bottle of Forty Creek Double Barrel Reserve, a Canadian whisky distilled just a few kilometres down the road from my home, to my cabinet. It's quite lovely, but may prove difficult to find for those outside of Canada. The Forty Creek Barrel Select, the distillery's more basic product, is also a treat, and at an exceedingly good price. Ralfy gives a nice review of it here:

@dbk, I actually had a little Forty Creek Double Barrel Reserve last week, and found it to be lucious and very smooth ... a whole notch above any other Canadian that I have tried, even Canadian Club Sherry Cask (which is quite nice). I wanted to try it a few more times before thinking about a review. I am planning to get some more before they run out ... only 10,200 bottles world-wide ! Must be nice to just be able to walk over to the still, and fill up your bucket :-)
