@AboutChoice as it happens, I think I'm the one who ought to be jealous of you. Although I've got good access to Canadian distilleries, you seem to be able to get your mitts on some brilliant-sounding bourbons that are not readily available here. Ontario, like many provinces, has only government-run liquor stores, so the selection is not as wide as can be found elsewhere. I guess I'm going to have to go hunting elsewhere...

The Yamazaki 18 Year Old is great! It won the Silver Medal in the Single Malt 18-24 category at the 2010 International Whisky Competition! Check out this video.

@PeatAndMeat OGOLD is part of the competition apparently. He's been quite active tonight, he's posted backlinks on my blog as well... Let's wait and see if he's actually interested in Connosr or just trying to get a few extra visitors.

As I have become a big fan of Japaneese whisky I'm currently enjoying the Suntory Yamazaki Sherry Cask. Very nice indeed.

@jacksonj04 Trying my first Glenfiddich 12 tonite. On sale at the local shop for $30. Couldn't pass it up. Filled 2 six ounce flasks for my friends to exchange and just took a sip....intial tasting was very "nice and easy does it" More tonite.

Lately it's been a bit bleak here. Evenings are usually Laphroaig QC, Lagavulin 16 or Glenfarclas 105. When not one of these...one of my Ardbegs.

Finally got to experience Ardbeg Uigeadial and I wasn't disappointed. Lovely stuff. But secretly I still think I'm a Laproaig drinker at heart.

Just finished a small flight of bourbons tonight: Corner Creek Reserve, Maker's Mark, Woodford Reserve, and Eagle Rare 10 Year-old Single Barrel. All were enjoyable, but that Eagle Rare still shines like the sun to me.

Tonight is a wine evening: a deeply flavorful and smooth California 2007 Four Vines, Old Vine Cuvee Zinfandel ... drink now through 2013 !

@dbk, Corner Creek and Woodford Res are among my favorite bourbons. I tried Eagle Rare again, and it is good too, but distinctive (my bottling). Since you enjoy Eagle Rare, you might also try Bulleit ... a little less reserved, but both share that dignified dry leather and tobacco character ... different from most other bourbons (IMHO).

Just noticed my bottle of Highland Park 12, and went to visit their website. Nice video on how to taste whisky ... no swirling ! Didn't realize, but HP12 is 100% sherry cask, as is Macallan 12. I usually have not liked the rubber nose of HP12, but this time it was not an issue, and I greatly enjoyed it ... similar in character to A'bunadh. So now HP12 has been moved from my "don't replace" list to my "keepers" list. This is why I haven't offered reviews yet ... impressions are too variable.

Finally had to compare to the Mac12 ... also very enjoyable, sweeter and w/o the smoky dimension ... similar to the lovely Mac Cask Strength. Right now I slightly prefer Mac to HP. Hmmm ... what else is 100% sherry ?

@Skepparkrantz

@AboutChoise if you out hunting for a sherry whiskey i would strongly recommend Glendronach Revival 15yo. It is matured for a minimum of 15 years in Oloroso sherry casks. Oh im so missing my bottle, guess i have to replace it soon!
