@bwmccoy I've had my eye on this one for a while. I loved the 1990 Sherry Cask matured Bowmore from the same series. You think the Bordeaux Cask matured is worth getting?

Not drinking it now, but will be "soon"...how did it take me a month to learn about this?...Knob Creek Rye Whiskey from Jim Beam. It is way way way about time for Jim Beam to release a 100 proof Rye. Now let's have a 107 proof version of Old Overholt please, and a nice Beam Rye in barrel proof. Please, Beam, please!!!...and I am not big on begging....

@dannyboy - I have not had the opportunity to try the 1990 Sherry matured version, but would love to. Combining two of my favorites, smoke and sherry, is always a treat.
The Bordeaux version is not for everyone. I would have to say that you will either love it or hate it. Jim Murray wrote in his review of it that he had a falling out with Jim McEwan (who was at Bowmore at the time this one was released) over it. Needless to say, Jim Murray HATED it. Jim Murray is all about balance and this is not a balanced whisky. I had the opportunity to try it before I bought a bottle. I saw it at a bar in San Francisco in December. I had a glass and was blown away. Later that day, I walked into the Whisky Shop down the street from the bar and I couldn't believe it, they had 3 bottles on the shelf. I bought one immediately. After I opened the bottle a few weeks ago, it wasn't as good as I remember it being at the bar. Maybe it needs to sit a little while after opening. My brother-in-law is pretty picky about the Scotch he drinks, where I like to think I am a little more open minded about trying different whiskies. I was surprised when he liked it.
Sorry, my reply is so long winded and I'm not sure I answered your question. The problem is I would hate to tell you, yes, go spend $125 (approximately) on this bottle and then have you not enjoy it. I would feel terrible. It's a complex dram and won't be to everyone's liking. Would I buy it again? No, probably not, but not because I didn't enjoy it. I'm glad I bought it and had the opportunity to experience it. It's something different and it won't be available forever (there was only 1,800 bottles released).
Hope that helps with you decision. If you do get it, let me know what you think. Cheers!

Erratum: correction on the apres-dram line from The Fabulous Baker Boys. It is actually "Not bad!", rather than "Pretty good!".

@bwmccoy Appreciate the detailed reply! I think curiosity will eventually bring me to buy a bottle, it's just a matter of whether the shop still has it by then! I think you're right about the whisky needing to sit for a while, I've had a couple of cask strength Bowmores that really didn't amaze me until half way through the bottle. I'll let you know if/when I try it ;)

Woodford Reserve. Had the bottle for nearly a year, never liked it much, always found it too sweet. Now on the final dram of the bottle I seem to be enjoying it a lot - getting ripe bananas, stewed apples, and plenty of vanilla and maple syrup of course! Oh well, at least I still have half a bottle of Elijah Craig 12 to enjoy ;)

BenRiach Curiositas. It's been awhile. Either this bottle is a wee bit watered down or my pallette is more demanding today. Either way it's enjoyable.

Aberlour 10 first, and now Macallan Cask Strength. Just ready for a mega-hit of fruit...I am especially enjoying the Macallan nose. Wonderfully intense, and seemingly more so now with the bottle open for quite a few months.
I offer a toast tonight to @jwise, a lover of the Macallan Cask Strength!

@systemdown - Excellent, in an understated kind of way. Compared to a Macallan sherry; it's demure. very light nose and the taste at first is light with a bigger finish that kind of sneaks up on you. It is amazingly smooth. A lot of the traditional laddie character coming through and the sherry gives it more of a pink hue color and to me liquorice or Anise flavor.
I first tried this expression at s bar one night followed by a glass of Orpheus. Talk about a study in contrast. I immediately knew I would be buying a bottle of each. :-)

@Victor - count me as a fan of the Macallan Cask Strength as well. It was the one that turned me on to scotch. My first love, at least as whisky is concerned... :-)

Ardbeg night for me tonight: two batches of Corryvreckan (I like your bottle of it more than I do mine, @cpstecroix), Ten, Airigh Nam Beist, and Supernova 2010...too many bottles, here,...for some reason I am finding it hard to find one of my open bottles of Uigeadail.

Really loving the Ardbeg Supernova 2010. (Yes, I will be happy to accept anybody's offer of a sample of the original Supernova, for sure) Supernova 2010 is memorable for me because it clinched the deal for Dramlette to finally come around to loving the Holy Trinity Islays. Dramlette actually insisted that we buy a bottle of the Supernova 2010 after having had a sample. At the time $ 135 seemed like a lot to me, but I dared not let the moment go, the moment of my wife becoming a Holy Trinity lover. (Yeah I know, $ 135 would seem inexpensive for Ardbeg 2010 in some quarters of the globe.) What I especially like about Ardbeg 2010 are two things: its sweetness, and the fact that it takes a very very little bit to gain a lot of whisky satisfaction. I'll still have plenty of it around to sample when I see you, @thecyclingyogi, and @cpstecroix.

@Victor: A toast to Victor for his unselfish sharing of information. And the toast is... Bruichladdich 2001 7yo. Ressurection. I'm not being a cheepskate either; for such a young Whisky, this is remarkable and impossible to fault. I hope some was held back for a 12yo.
Thank you Victor.
Slainte!
