Black Bottle! I feel like a pirate for some reason. It could be called "A poor man's Toiteach".

PC7. I am a fan of the Port Charlotte line from Bruichladdich. It's just about a perfect dram for me. Oily, peaty and full of malt. I bought two bottles of PC7 today. I'll try my damnedest to save one for later.

Happy (early) birthday, to my good friend 'Victor'! As a toast and salute to you good sir, 'WhiskyJoe' and I just cracked open one of the few bottles of George T. Stagg (2011 edition) that (I believe) exists in Ontario.

In a word, WOW! The Stagg packs a punch (at 71.3%, it is, by about 8%, the strongest whisky that I have ever tried). The vanilla, oak, and a strong maple syrup/sugar flavour really comes through on both the nose and palate. We both savoured an ounce or so, neat (we will likely experiment with adding water another time). About 1/2 way through the drink, a note of dry tea leaves jumped out at me, rather unexpectedly...very cool!

This was indeed a special experience made possible by 'Victor' (one of the great resources within the Connosr community) who kindly procured and transported a bottle of Stagg, from Maryland, for a bottle trade with me at a tasting in Toronto several months ago. Thank you for your kindness and generosity over the past many months.

Happy Birthday!

The Stagg also hit us with a lot of pepper and sweet cream at different times. Hints of dark chocolate and sweet fruits were also evident. Might these show up more prominently when water is added? Future experimentation will reveal the answer...

Sipping a Grand Old Parr 12 yo, in memory of my grandmother (last name of Parr) who passed away in her sleep, earlier today.

While she was a teetotaler, she did live quite a long, noteworthy, and generally wonderful life (Thomas Parr, the inspiration behind the GOP label was purported to have lived to the age of 152, as legend has it.). My many fond memories of growing up and living near her and my grandfather will be recalled, contemplated, and treasured this week as I travel to the US.

Coincidentally, the raisin and butter notes that I get from sipping the GOP 12 remind me of toasted, buttered, raisin bread that she would make for me on mornings that I had stayed over at my grandparents house. I'll remember to keep my jacket done up, Grandma... :)

@Pudge72, Dramlette and I wish you and your family our heartfelt sympathy regarding the passing of your grandmother. She will still be with you, though.

Passing away in her sleep? That is my plan as well. That is so nice that you had her with you for a good number of years.

@Marcus Hear hear Marcus. Pudge72's post brought to my mind the passing of my grandmother who raised me and never got a chance to meet my wife, dying just weeks after I met my wife in person. I raise a glass as well to the honor of those we all have loved and who are no longer with us.

I stopped by a local packie....skimming by the standard Makers Mark and Beam Black....and low ad behold...I spy a dusty bottle of Old Fitzy 12 year sitting in the cognac section.... I ask the owner where this came from...his response.... "oh that thing, not sure how good it is, really....give me 30 bucks and you can have it". I, of course asked if there was any more, and there wasnt. I can now see why this simple bourbon is so sought after. My first sip was a bit firm..so I dropped a few drips of warm water and.................WOW....this is one amazing pour. I detected strong sugar cookie and bread pudding flavors....and the nose is unreal. Its fruity and creamy at the same time. The finish is warm and long...and substantial. This is one fine bourbon...complex but so easy to sip....too easy.

Bowmore 16 year old (1992) Bordeaux Wine Cask Matured 6 years in traditional American bourbon oak casks followed by 10 years in Limousin Bordeaux casks. The color of this whisky reminds me of Cola. The taste is sweet and spicy. One interesting dram!
