@EvaRees -- We sampled the Bernheim and the Dry Fly head to head last night. I have to disagree with you. The Dry Fly is very new-make-y and needs more time in the barrel. I think the Bernheim is much better.

Johnny Walker Blue. I received a 200ml gift of Blue. I've had Blue before at a tasting and recall it blowing my mind. Either this bottle is a little off or my pallette is more demanding now. Still delightful on a rainy Seattle eve.

Healthy portion of Rowan's Creek. Can't keep my nose out of it. Smells like a caramel apple and vanilla and so much more.

Last evening, I shared in a 'not so wee' wee dram of Talisker 12yo. friends of Malt Masters 45.8% abv. I initially thought, good but just another Talisker - I was wrong! The longer it sat in the glass, the more obvious the spice and the incredible depth and juicness. I've never come face to face with 'full-on' Kippers in a Malt nose and palate; the longer it sat the more this character showed itself!

Good neighbour this fellow: The only downside, I probably can't buy a bottle anywhere =(

Just got a Flaming Heart 2012...Not a keeper for me:( Too much of that vegetal / mezcal peat taste I recently lamented on in a review of Longrow CV). Also, celebrating Halloween with several Sazerac cocktails. Yum.

Probably should'nt post this since its not a whisky but you asked. I'm having some Gosling Black Seal rum since its Halloween and I wanted something very different. It's a tasty Bermuda rum.

After recently killing off a couple of my open Islay bottles (Kilchoman 5 yr Single Sherry Cask and PC7), I decided last night to open my bottle of Ardbeg Galileo. My initial thought was Ardbeg "light". The taste is closer to Alligator and Day, than it is the more traditional Ardbegs. What I was most impressed wth was the nose (sweet, tree sap, fresh cut wood). Overall, I clasify Galileo a solid medium (on a high, medium, low scale). A good, everyday whisky.

Celebration of new wine harvest is coming) I had a bottle of Bardolino Novello San Crispino Essere with my family. It's nothing short of amazing new fresh red wine! Highly recommended!

Earlier this day I bit a bullet and purchased Port Charlotte 8 Ar Duthchas. I've tried a sample of it once and was impressed, so decided I needed a bottle) The purchase made my pocket lighter for 95 bucks but it's a drink well worth the money! Now having a dram of it. Absolutely fantastic! Probably the best whisky I tried so far.

Trying to finish my bottle of DT NC2 Macallan 18 YO, with a few drams of Glenfiddich 15 in between just to keep things interesting. I am on a mission to finish bottles before opening new ones. It has been nice to have many bottles open for sampling, but I am quickly forming the opinion that many open bottles equal more air time, which to my tastes, has not been anything but detrimental.

Yesterday saw me expand my whisky knowledge by finally trying a dram of Macallan 12. Some nice notes of caramel sauce and red apple throughout. I would buy a glass again at a pub, but I would not spend the $90 it costs here in Ontario (though I may pick one up at some point in the future in the US for $55-$60).

Strangely, at the last two sips in the glass, my nose was hit with nothing but black pepper. I have never noticed the 'peppery' note so distinctly in a whisky before. I even checked with my wife to make sure that she was not smelling black pepper from food at another table...no, it apparently was coming strictly from the whisky...wow!

This was preceded by a dram of Leinburn 12, the penultimate dram from a bottle that had been brought in for a whisky tasting that I was unable to attend. This was probably my worst experience with sulphur taint in a whisky as all I could get on the nose was the 'freshly struck matchstick' note. While I don't necessarily mind sulphur related notes within a larger aroma/taste profile, the overpowering nature of the matchstick on the nose (and palate) rendered this drink boring/one-dimensional.

My evening at home was concluded with the finishing dram of my HP 12 bottle (it shall return to the cabinet at some point) in a H2H with a pour of the HP 18 sample that was kindly provided to me by 'maltster' several months ago. Wow, I forgot how awesome the HP 18 can be! Thank you again, 'maltster'!

Trying to expand my range and appreciate whisky of all ages. So picked up Kilchoman Machir Bay and having a small dram...for such a young whisky it's very very good. Tastes well beyond its years and I'm glad I took a risk and bought a bottle.

@FMichael - and how did you find it? We put the Scapa 16 into our Highland Park vertical, which I guess made it more of an Orkney Vertical...it was quite nice, and an interesting contrast with the Highland Park whiskies. Personally, I found it more enjoyable than the HP 12 and 15.
