@talexander, did you receive any information as to from which of the distilleries that 1932 bourbon originated? There were a few of them that were allowed to operate "for medicinal purposes", of up to 16 ounces of whiskey per day,...prescribed by a physician, of course. Many people 'converted to Judaism' because they could also get alcohol (wine) "for religious purposes".
With whiskey that old it is very hard to get an idea as to whether it tastes close to the original flavours at time of first bottling.

Just tried Dark Horse Bourbon. It's out of Lanexa KS USA. They use honeycomb staves in their oak and age for 18 months. It shows on the flavor. Verry heavy wood with none of the mature oak sweetness. Unlike any bourbon I've had before. Not in a good way. This is a cocktail bourbon.

@Victor, the only info I received at the auction was basically from the listing in the Bonham's catalogue (which I posted the link to). It's from the "American Medicinal Spirits Co." (which two minutes of internet research tells me was a company formed during prohibition to legally provide medicinal alcohol - clearly they branched out to simply selling booze to whomever they could).
The spirit was distilled at Harry E. Wilken Distillery. Two minutes of internet research brought me to this:
boards.ancestry.com/surnames.wilken/63/…
which tells me they were a pretty active distillery at the time.
I'd dig more but...I'm at work and don't have time!

@Krau How's the Batch 40? We have it at my store but it just went up $16. Should have grabbed the Batch 38 while I had the chance.

@Victor - that's what I had surmised from the info available on the Compass Box website, I just wasn't sure of which oaks were used for the secondary maturation, other than the fact that Spice Tree has the heavily toasted French Oak barrel heads.

Last night I was surprised by a bottle of Four Roses cask strength bourbon.... Haven't had a 10 year old bourbon in a while, and this was so nice that I still have a hard time believing it is about 60% as written on the label...

@JJBoud I was not in any way disappointed with the Batch 40. In fact, I enjoyed it very much (almost too much at 60%ABV!). Unfortunately, my only other experience with A'bunadh was at a swanky hotel bar, and I didn't get a chance to ask which Batch # that was. So, I can't accurately compare it to other batches. I had been scouring Indianapolis for any A'bunadh (my usual very well-stocked store let me down), and finally found this one in a surprising location. I believe the price was about $65 US. I look forward to comparing batches if I find others.

Tonight I'm getting a head start on that little Irish celebration that happens every March 17th with some Redbreast 12yr. This stuff is goooood. :)

Tonight, Clynelish 14, Sonnalta PX, and Yoichi 15 in that order. They play very nicely off one another.

Having a little Glenlivet Nadurra before calling it a night. With just the right amount of water this stuff is money.

@PMessinger great call on the Redbreast 12. I will dipping into my bottle on Sunday, my friend. Enjoy!

Dug out an old Glenrothes Select Reserve... Seems to have changed quite a bit, the bottle is getting pretty low, time to bump it up and finish it soon.

Noah's Mill Bourbon. Are you kidding me...this is outstanding...and I mean OUTSTANDING! I've never had a bourbon so smooth and simultaneously exploding with flavor, and at 57% it's quite remarkable they can do this. I didn't know they could make high proof Bourbon that goes down like an 18 year old single malt. Well....I guess I'll be exploring the bourbon world now. Oh boy...I thought my scotch collection and bottle buying was coming to a close.... but of course this bourbon was incredibly cheap compared to single malts I've been adding to the collection...so maybe a bourbon adventure will be a win all the way around.

@indynoir Love the Noah's Mill as well! Only had a sample though, but I must get myself a bottle sometime.

Finally after numerous phone calls to the distillery, having many friends come back from South East Asia, I've put my hands on 3 cask strength Kavalan whiskies, bourbon cask, sherry cask, vinho cask. Can't wait to tuck into these tomorrow night!

@teebone673 Thanks are you going to review the Glenlivet Nadurra. I've only had multiple bottles of the standard Glens and those are good, I've not had this expression. Enjoy March 17th with that RB12. :)

@PMessinger IMO if you are a fan of Glenlivet 12 you will love the Nadurra. To me it is like the 12 on steroids. Definitely needs some water, but it really shines. I get lots of apple, pineapple, vanilla, slight cinnamon, some spice. I like to call it apple pie a la mode in a glass. Highly recommended. Let me know if and when you get a chance to try it.

Ending my Friday night with a dram of Glenmorangie Astar. This is the most bourbony single malt I've tasted. Simply amazing stuff.

Springbank Longrow CV. This is my first Springbank Longrow and I must say it's quite good. Now I see what all the fuss is about. This is a peated version.

Out with a group in a social situation where everyone else was drinking craft beer. Tried to remain inconspicuous with 5 Jaimeson's on the rocks. Was I wrong?

Trying three new ones tonight:
Kilchoman Machir Bay: I resisted Kilchoman for the longest time, owing to my bias against such young stuff. How ignorant I was just a few hours ago. It's an excellent dram.
Bunnahabhain 12 yo: A head-scratcher. Loaded with flavors I like, but way out of balance. My bottle (or batch?) also seems to suffer from sulfur taint. We'll see what an opened bottle and a little time will do.
Aberfeldy 12 yo: According to @Victor (and others), another one that benefits from time. Too tight and tart at this stage. But I can tell there are loads of flavors in there just waiting to open up, so it looks like I have two bottles that may be rewarded with patience.

@WhiskyBee, my bottle of Bunnahabhain 12 OB was a little out of balance too for the first weeks but now this has become very good - I like the Bunnie 12 and this particular batch is probably the best I had so far; very rich for this expression, notes of hazelnuts, mocha, some seaweed, chocolate, vanilla and dried fruits - Sherry is more dominant than usually but I really like it - I think your patience will be rewarded...

Bunnahabhain 22 by chieftain's.... Really good. I have a backup bottle of this ready, this is the last of this bottle
