Trying out a couple of new Canadian beers. Alexander Keith's Hallertauer Hop Ale (lightly hoped with some spice notes) and after I will try the Cascade Hop Ale. But since this is a Whiskey community, I will "have" to have a dram of Kilchoman Machir Bay 2012 Release. If you haven't tried it, I would highly recommend making it your next purchase if you like a peated whiskey. Young, but all the better for it. A flavour packed, yet refreshing dram.

No matter what you choose to drink, cheers to all!

BTW, the Cascade Hop Beer has a lot more hop to it and some citrus notes. Both are quite good.

Emelisse Imperial Russian Stout Caol Ila Barrel Aged.

Its not whisky offcourse, but a great way to prepare the palate for an awesome peat monster :) Lovely stuff! Anyone familiar with it or other barrel aged expressions from Emelisse or de Molen?

@bwmccoy it was very nice! Not really my thing with a little too floral on the palate for my personal preference, but still very nice! I'll be posting a review in the next few days on it when I'm finished running around like a headless chicken planning for Scotland!

On the eve of my 60th birthday...Dramlette and I started out with a public Living Social Johnnie Walker tasting, pleasant people and a nice if underwhelming experience...followed by American whiskey flights at Acadiana Restaurant in DC...we sampled Hudson Rye, Reservoir Rye, and 7 new Willett Family Estate named bottles of bourbon (lowest ABV 60%): Kaffieklip, Thresher, Creme d'Epice, Matinee, Southern BBQ, French Connection, and Double Bean. We liked the Double Bean and Thresher the best.

Now I'm raising a glass in honor of Victor, a 5 year Kilchoman (SMWS 129.1 - distilled June 28th, 2006) “A Smoky, Peachy, Yoghurt of Loveliness”. A great, young dram for a great, young man! Happy 60th Victor!

My 60th birthday drams today were, prior to the toast of Balvenie 21 Portwood just made to my well-wishers, all from much-cherished samples given to me by whisky friends, and from bottles given as birthday gifts. They were: Benriach 18 yo (1990) Douglas of Drumlanrig, single cask, 43%; Macallan 36 yo (1972) Gordon and MacPhail 43%, first fill sherry cask; Black Bull 40 yo blended Scotch 40.2%; Parker's Heritage Collection 6th Edition Four Grain Bourbon 68.95%; and Blanton's Original Single Barrel Bourbon 46.5%. All five were excellent. Many thanks to those of you who gave me these great whiskies with which to celebrate my 60th birthday! I have been saving them for just such a special occasion.
