I'm going to see Slayer (again) along with Lamb of God and Behemoth on Jul 30 in Nashville. Huge names in metal.

@Victor Wow! I had no idea about the Doors's Brechtian connection. Thanks for that. I believe I have also found references to Tacitus's Agricola and Erich Von Stroheim's Greed in "The End", for what it is worth....

@paddockjudge S.O.B. (and Nathaniel Rateliff in general) makes me crave bourbon.

@McTeague, Bowie also covered the Alabama Song in the '70's during his Berlin phase, when he was hanging out with Iggy Pop. Here is a more recent version by Bowie.

My 11 year old daughter would be ashamed if I did not mention the new Selena Gomez song 'It Ain't Me (we were sipping whiskey neat in the second line and all throughout the chorus).

Not sure if it was mentioned! However, there is the classic by the Irish Rovers. Whiskey on a Sunday. "Drinking buttermilk thru the week and whiskey on the Sunday"
Personally, I have no love for buttermilk. Never have, never will. Whiskey on the other hand! No issues

Holy moly, this thread took off since I was last here. Lots to catch up on. I haven't forgotten about that Spotify playlist either.
But the reason I logged on today was to share this new song by Elton John and Jack White:
I've only listened to it once, but I quite like it.

@Nelom , thanks for posting that Jack White (and oh yeah, Elton John) video. I can't keep up with all his solo stuff ever since The White Stripes knocked off.
Apparently this comes from a new collection called "Music from The American Epic Sessions," which I guess is the soundtrack from a PBS special or something? There's my two minutes of Googling paying off.

It's from an upcoming documentary called American Epic Sessions that "features famous musicians recording with rare 1920s technology."
That's from the Rolling Stone article I read that brought this song to my attention: rollingstone.com/music/news/…
Here's a quote with a bit more info:
The American Epic Sessions captures a number of musicians including Beck, Nas and more, as they record old standards and new tunes with vintage 1920s equipment. The film follows American Epic, a multi-part PBS documentary – executive produced by White, T Bone Burnett and Robert Redford – that examines the history of recording technology and popular music in America.
And here's a more thorough write-up on this project: rollingstone.com/music/news/…

How about an obscure one... The band, Von Ehrics, a Texas Country Punk Rock and Roll band signing "Whiskey on my mind".

Thanks @Nozinan! Life (both personal and professional) has been very busy the last 6 - 7 months. Fortunately, none of it was anything bad, just busy. Finished up a huge project at work, so hopefully things will settle down a bit.
