A Strathmill of more than a quarter century old, bottled by the Belgian Druma Mor… sounds interesting. Strangely enough only 36 bottles were released, which shows it was a split cask. Nothing wrong with that, of course. Let’s get to it!

Spring fresh nose on Granny Smith apples and gooseberries with a hint of kiwi. After breathing some lime juice and vanilla kick in, as do some dried apricots and a twig of mint.

It’s somewhat oily and softly seasoned. Think white pepper and nutmeg, immediately followed by apples and citrus fruit, mirabelles and gooseberries. From spring to summer, so to speak.

It could have done with a slightly longer finish, but it remains sweet evolving towards somewhat bitter from the wood.

A textbook card player’s whisky. Very accessible, flawless but somewhat easy. Nothing wrong with that either, of course.
