I must admit I had never heard of Tamnavulin until around 6 months ago. Scotland has many distilleries and this is one of those that happily hides in plain sight. Started in 1966 this is a very efficient operation producing around 4 million litres of spirit each year.

Very pale in colour, the palest 21 yr I can remember seeing. Bottled as an independent single cask expression at at happy 48.2%

Nose: Upfront I get old leather which is big and powerful, cut grass, citrus, fresh ginger & oak.

Palate: It is surprisingly light and fresh in the mouth. Lemons, floral, oak, slight bitterness but not unpleasant.

The finish is drying and possibly on the short side of medium.

It is a very interesting dram. Bitter sweet and intriguing. Not a big hitter in terms of powerful flavours but made with finesse.
