This review is long overdue, by almost six weeks as shortly after I returned home from Scotland I received a whisky sample from The Grove Vineyard in Margaret River.

Actually to be honest I came home to LOTS of samples from Benromach, Balvenie, Glenfiddich, The Grove and a few others. However shortly after returning home I got sick pretty badly and by badly I mean to the point where I was unable to taste anything for weeks. Due to this my whisky and beer consumption PLUMMETED. Finally though I'm feeling good enough to taste whisky again so let the reviews come!

The Grove sent me two samples, the first thing was a bottle sitting at roughly 300mls or so of the 3rd release of their American Spirit. The second sample was an experiment, a test run on a possible upcoming single malt.

Let's start with their 3rd release of the American Spirit.

In a glencairn glass it pours a lovely amber, with some thick legs that quickly run down the glass.

The nose is soft and young, with oodles of vanilla, some coconut, soft cherries covered in honey, some pineapple a little nutmeg and cinnamon, some toffee and a wee bit of citrus.

Time for a taste though!

A little bite of alcohol, honey and cherries immediately, cinnamon, citrus, bit of clove, oranges, toasted oak, vanilla, vanilla oranges.

You can tell it's a young whisky, that's for sure, but it's not a bad thing. It is enjoyable and easy drinking.

The finish is very short with the vanilla oranges lasting til the end.

Not a bad little whisky with oodles of vanilla and oranges.

Running roughly $90 a bottle, it's not a bad little whisky from this small microdistillery and it makes me interested to see how the possible single malt will go!
