I like the Galileo, although some don't care for the marriage of Marsala casks with traditional Ardbeg flavors.
The Uigedail, on the other hand, is loved by nearly all Scotch drinkers and widely praised as one of the world's great whiskies. It's loaded with flavors, all of them in perfect balance.
In short, the Galileo is a must-try. The Uigeadail is a must-have.

Sorry for the upper post, I am typing on my iPhone and I pressed the wrong button.
I would like to find a Galileo for the same price as an Uigedail. Unfortunately this will not be possible. The Galileo costs about twice as much as the Uigedail an is (in my eyes) even the worse whisky. Still a good one but less good/impressive than the Uigedail.

Well then, it seems like the sensible thing is to grab the Uigeadail then... No surprise there, really. :)

Though right this minute, something occurred to me... I remember hearing something about the Uigeadail no longer being produced, but it certainly doesn't seem hard to come by. The Galileo, on the other hand, seems to be increasing in rarity all the time. If I want to try the Galileo in, say, six months time, I might not be able to. But I'd be surprised if the Uigeadail was similarly rare by then.

@HeartlessNinny Don't fall into that trap. You won't be able to taste em all. How often are you going to buy $100 bottles of Ardbeg?

@valuewhisky Well, I could see getting 2 a year. There are two other things that intrigue me about the Galileo: First, it seems to be quite highly regarded. Second, it seems like it's something that's a bit different. Of course, it seems that pretty much everyone agrees that the Uigeadail is better. (All this is a reminder of how I like to over think things...) :)

@HeartlessNinny Of course, in a few months, everyone will want "Ardbog" (not a typo). I actually disagree that Galileo seems highly regarded. Read between the lines and I think there's a lot of confusion and disappointment with it. People just love Ardbeg special releases, that's why there's so much hype. Not that I'm really trying to persuade you - I've never had Galileo. I know Uigeadail is good though, as is Corryvreckan.

@valuewhisky Excellent point. Maybe it would make more sense to just get the Uigeadail, which is pretty much a sure bet, and simply buy something else instead of the Galileo -- like, say, some A'Bunadh (which I have also not yet tried).

@HeartlessNinny Here's a little extra commentary for you from David D - a spirits buyer in California. His blog is always informative and entertaining. See Number 7 in the list. spiritsjournal.klwines.com/klwinescom-spiri…

As mentioned in another thread - I've been nursing my 10 yr Ardbeg for nearly 4 months, and I'm looking to try another Ardbeg...The only concern is that not too many stores near me offer anything more than the 10 yr expression; I'll need to purchase online, and I would like to get an idea of what I might like before I make the purchase...
For me - I've narrowed it down to either the Uigeadail, or Corryvreckan...From what I've been able to gather here - many here really do enjoy the Uigeadail which is what I'll proably go with.
Really gotta love this site; been so helpful in so many ways!

@HeartlessNinny Yeah, good point. Get the Uige+A'bunadh, I think you will like it!
I never had the Galileo but won't buy it. Would get this bottle just because it is rare and maybe going up in the price (at least it was increasing in value). But this is just because of the hype. And this I don't like. I just want to have a nice sip and therefore Uige > Galileo.

Thanks, everybody. I'd like to echo FMichael's sentiment: I'm new to this site, but so far I've found it to be a really great online community. I saw some guy's review of an Ardbeg where he describes it as 'windex' and give it a five. I thought I'd see some flaming in the comments, but instead people more or less politely responded. I knew then that this was a good website.

Based on taste?
Uigeadail, and it is not even close.
Galileo was pretty disappointing in my opinion. Mostly marketing, but a cool item to have if you are a collector!

Try them both, for sure. But definitely Uigeadail. Here's an interesting question: Uigeadail or Corryvreckan?

@talexander - Like asking if I'd rather spend the evening with Amy Childs or Aly Michalka.
Close call, but Aly -- er, Oogie wins the coin toss.

@WhiskyBee Ha ha - I had no idea who either of those people were until I looked them up. Agreed! Both yummy.

@talexander That is the question i really am curious b/c i am actually deciding between the two U or C?
11 years ago 0
Corryvreckan or Uigeadail? I will take Uigeadail 100% of the time.
...of course my answer to any of these "Should I buy A OR B" questions is almost always "Both" unless one of the whiskies is one of the relatively few really bad whiskies...and for you @HeartlessNinny, my answer is "All three", throwing in the Aberlour A'bunadh.

@Victor I like your answer! I wish i had your budget. My wife is a CPA and I'm an accountant so we are both "responsible" with money....Sometimes i wish my whiskey budget was a little more irresponsible. Luckily like you i tend to lean towards bourbons but i digress.

@Nolinske, if you really can only buy one, get a sample of both of them. Make friends, form a club, trade samples...whisky is a social hobby meant to be shared.

So now Galileo is the best single malt in the freakin world? Did I get a bad bottle or something?! Galileo is good, sure, but it's not in the same league as anything you could possibly call best in the world.
And can someone tell me how the world whisky awards actually work. How can an expression that was discontinued years ago become the best whisky of 2013? Why didn't it become whisky of the year last year? I mean it hasn't changed since then.
I love Ardbeg, but I can't see good reason fror Galileo grabbing this title.
So to answer the question (as if I haven't already), in my opinion Galileo is a very good whisky, Uigeadail is AMAZING. And here in Japan Galileo is much more expensive.

@talexander I own both and have to say I enjoy Corryvreckan more than Uigeadail. Just my 5 cents for what its worth.

@NilsG You are confusing me. As far as I know Galileo was released 2012 and it was a special release. All bottles are more or less sold, you only get pricey ones now.
So what do you mean with "years ago"?
I am really glad that the Uige is a standard release, otherwise I would hate Ardbeg enormously!

I think I'm gonna post reviews of both of these later today. Just for fun.

I think I might know the answer to this already, but I thought I'd ask: Around these parts, Ardbeg Uigeadail and Galileo cost roughly the same. Which one would make the better purchase? I should say that I've yet to try either.
