Thanks for the welcome big brother! (@brucefraser).
I'm enjoying a nice glass of Bowmore for my first post! Looks like there are lots of Islay fans on here. I'm a fan of most other regions as well of course!!!

I've really enjoyed the double-wood/double-cask malts that I have tried. I am looking for a straight sherry cask to try next.

@jwise welcome to the site, great input. For a sherry experience have you considered Aberlour A'bunadh? (connosr.com/reviews/aberlour/…)

@Jean-Luc- Funny story. There I was today, at the liquor store staring at about five different sherry-casked malts trying to decide which to take home. The shop-keep walks up (who is pretty knowledgeable, or at least has drunk a few single malts in his day) and asks if he can help me find something. I tell him I'll looking for a sherry-casked malt. I tell him I have the Aberlour 12yr double-cask, and mention something about the A'bunadh. It is in a maroon sleeve, but doesn't say 'sherry' anywhere on it (that I notice). I end up walking out with the Macallan Cask Strength (sherry-casked), which is now my absolute new favorite! It is unbelievably good.
I now have the A'bunadh on my wishlist. It will probably be a while, as I have spent WAY too much money lately on scotch! (Five bottles in the last week?)

Christmas came a bit early for me this year. Both my brothers gave me whiskey this year. Got two bottles of bourbon (Old Grand-Dad 114 and Black Maple Hill), and a Rye (Gibson's finest rare 18 year old). Can't wait to get into these!

Nice holiday gift: I got the following today (all minitatures, mind you!): Highland Park 15 Year Old, 16 Year Old, 18 Year Old, 21 Year Old, 25 Year Old and 30 Year Old. Wonderful! And then also Balblair 1989 and 1997, Glenrothes Select Reserve, Kilbeggan, Tyrconnell and Locke's 8 Year Old. Finally two miniatures of Glen Keith 1983. Don't you just love Christmas?

Santa was good to me -- three bottles, Ardmore, Glenlivet, and a Glenmorangie. Winter evenings will be enjoyable this year.

After the VERY impressive discovery of little secret Islay (No advertising on the Island! No Billboards! Keep the secret) Buddy Jonas and I are planning a trip to Speyside. As an introduction, I bought Glen Moray 12 today, which should be a matchstick to measure other (clean) Speysiders. I would have called Ghent Buddy Jonas to invite him for tasting from the shop, that's how excited I was. But perhaps that's a little too excited. So Jonas the offer still counts! Any experienced Speyside travellers?

Hi @Tommie-Jones... "connosr" is a shortening of the word "connoisseur" (en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Connoisseur)

Ardbeg Tame the Beast! tonight. Awesome stuff - trying it with & without a few drops of water for comparison....

interested in trying the Highland Park 12 yo ‘Hjarta" - heard good things, good things.

I would really love to try Hjarta too. Alas, I don't think I'll even see one of the 3900 bottles in the states... Its only sold at the distillery, online (to uk addresses), and Scandinavia...... But maybe I'll find the Earl Magnus.... anyone tried that?

The Ardmore has a nice peaty taste to it.
The Glenmorangie Nectar d'Or is sweet and smooth.
The Glenlivet is simply very enjoyable. More details later.
Finished off the Oban the other night. Enjoyed that one this past year.

Anyone going to Whisky Live in London? Maybe we could arrange to meet up

Also anyone know of a welcoming whisky club in London, I'd love to taste & learn more?

@mohler Have you heard of SMWS? www.smws.com I've been to their London members rooms a few times, very nice place to enjoy a dram.

Having said that, I did get some nice bottles for my birthday from my colleagues at the party last night, so I'm not complaining. I added the Bunnahabhain 11 year old, Glencadam 10 year old and Macallan 10 Year Old Fine Oak to my cabinet (there was also a Balvenie 12 Year Old Double Wood, Laphroig 10 Year Old and Glenfiddich 12 Year Old, but I already own those - but you can never have enough good dram, now can you?)
