(The first part of my intro post got lost, but it was something to the effect of, "So what whisky are you currently lusting over? What unpossesed bottle is keeping you awake at night? What do you wish you had $_____ to spend on? What would you buy in a heartbeat if the stars would just align, dammit?")

Foremost in my mind right now is a dust-gathering bottle of Kilkerran WIP #1 that, as far as I know, is still languishing at a current shop and has been for a few years. It's the last one!

I had a bottle a couple years ago and really liked it a lot—much more than I liked the later 2013 bourbon release (whichever # that was). That might just be because I was less experienced then, but I really think #1 had more of a lively kick and more of its young (mild) peat kick.

And then I saw a review of a later WIP on a blog that concluded with something like "Stop waiting for Kilkerran to hit its prime—It's there now! Stock up on these WIPs while you can, people! It's the Kilchoman of Campbeltown!" I'm exaggerating a bit, but the guy had a point. :)

So satisfying my current lust is not a matter of expenditure (it's a reasonable $50). It's a matter of grabbing that bottle before someone else does. And in writing this post, I've just explained to myself why I simply must call that store in the morning and see if they'll hold it for me. NOW I'm thinking.

(Any thoughts on Kilkerran WIPs from the community, by the way? Am I crazy for remembering that #1 so fondly? I'm gonna drink it, not "collect" it.)

@hunggar, is the price holding you back? Or local availability? Or...?

Or are you just held back by that weird two-tone bottle that looks like my dad's Pepsi glass after all the ice cubes have melted into it? :)

Price, basically. It's expensive. I could buy like 3 fantastic whiskies that I KNOW are good or spend big bucks on a whisky that I'm not convinced is worth the price (not having sampled it yet). Ideally I'd like to get a sample before I go ahead and grab it. But it calls to me, that one.

I would love to get my hands on a Talisker 25 yr in the years of 2004 - 2007, price is one of the reasons I've held back and availability. Next time always next time.

Bruichladdich Octomore Orpheus 2.2, our second bottle of it. Every single sip from that bottle was an "Oh my God!" experience. I think that now it would be hard to find a bottle under $ 800. Getting this would be tricky, but not impossible.

Willett 23 yo Family Estate Rye Whiskey, "The Iron Fist". Another OMG whiskey. I and others just doubled over in laughter upon tasting it. "What the hell is THIS?" we thought. It will be hard now to find a bottle from this 2008 bottled barrel anywhere. An astounding and unique experience.

Duncan Taylor Springbank 1967 40 yo. This was the only whisk(e)y I would have rated at 99 pts. Last we checked several years ago the only bottle I saw for sale was priced at $ 2,199.99. I'd have to come into some big money to pick up a bottle of this one.

I've seen a bottle of St Magdalene 1982 / bot. 2013 from Gordon & Macphail. It's been going round in my head for a while, should I buy it regardless of the price or wait for my birthday. The cost is £375, which is a lot of money. What should I do ?

I would agree 100% with @Victor, not that he needs me to second his choice, the Octomore Orpheus is every bit an oh my God experience with every dram. I hope to get another one or two myself. (:

Talisker 57' North and Laphroaig Cask strength Batch 7. Would especially love it if they'd do 12 - 15 year old OB cask strength versions of these for a reasonable price. Why not, damn it?!

I've had my eye on a bottle of Macallan Speymalt 21 year. Never paid over a hundred for a bottle yet but that will change soon.

I rarely see bottles of Tun 1401 for sale. I saw one this past year and I stared at it like I just saw a unicorn. I don't recall what batch it was. If I had purchased it, it would have been the most expensive scotch I had ever taken home. I recently had the opportunity to sample Tun 1401 batch #9 and was amazed how I couldn't figure out what I was smelling. I couldn't relate it to anything I had smelled before in a scotch. For that reason, I would have to say I probably lust for a Tun 1401 but would probably never buy one due to the price.

There are more ofcourse. I've sampled Balvenie Portwood 21 yo at least 4 times and every time I think wow, that tastes like quality to me. There is something Balvenie has done right with the 21 yo Portwood. I would love to have a bottle but I don't see myself spending $200+ for a bottle. I'll probably regret not picking one up though. It probably appears I'm a big Balvenie fan but I'm not really. It just so happens that the two bottles I would like and will probably never get are Balvenie.

I'd love to find a reasonably priced bottle of E.H. Taylor Warehouse C Tornado Surviving Bourbon. Great complex stuff. (my bottle is dangerously low)

Old Potrero Hotaling would be a nice find too.

A decent aged American whiskey (preferably rye) for a decent price in Australia. If our American brothers think they get ripped-off by unscrupulous vendors gouging on premium Van Winkles and Staggs etc., their eyes will water at the prices some of these go for in Australia.

@maltygirl I have also enjoyed the Tun 1401 and have both the 1401 and the Tun 1509 in stock. I will let you know when I open these and can, if you are interested poor off samples for you to try. Let me know if you are interested. (:

@PMessinger Absolutely! I might even have a sample to trade that you might be interested in. I don't have everything in my inventory listed on here so I'll touch base with you. I saw a Tun 1509 yesterday. They were asking a little over $300 for it...I'm passing on it. I also saw a Macallan CS yesterday that I'm going back to get. I just opened my one and only Macallan CS and I want another to put away for later.

@paddockjudge I recall reading some threads about bottle numbers on the Mac CS that notes when it was bottled. I can't find that discussion. I think it's buried in a discussion not related specifically to Mac CS. Do you happen to know what Discussion thread it's under? Thx.
