I like quite a few of the 10 year olds. At this point I would like to plug the Balvenie 10 yo Founders Reserve. Fantastic whisky. It is too bad that they are not making it any more.

@whiskyshiba, if you leave a bottle of Talisker 10 open 7+ months you may find, as I did, that the sweetness greatly increases and the pepper noticeably decreases. I like that evolution a lot. An underrated 10 yo is Aberlour 10. It has a beautiful clean simplicity. So far I have l been more drawn to that one than to the Aberlour 12 or 16.

Ardbeg 10 , I need to try the Talisker 10 . Would like to try before I buy but cant find it in my local pubs. Sounds great !

I haven't had many ten year olds to compare to, but I do love Ardbeg 10.

@Victor, As per your review on the Tali10, I've already set aside a bottle at 60% fill level. I can't wait to try it out next year. But don't know if it will last that long ;)

For me, it's the Benriach Curiositas but I agree with Victor, the Aberlour 10 is very good. Plan to buy Talisker 10 soon.

@whiskyshiba dang it, man; you don't ask easy questions!
The already mentioned Talisker, Ardbeg, and BenRiach Curiositas are "up there" for sure. I'd include Laphroaig (not the CS) among those too. Edradour 10 is very special to me (no groans, please. I like it.). Ledaig, Jura, and Arran are solid tens. All depends on the day, the food, and the mood. But I'd say my go-to ten has to be Benromach.

Don't have many 10 yr whiskeys but I have to say I am enjoying Laphroaig 10 Year Old so much so that I will replace it once empty.

@two-bit-cowboy, I just want to spark some conversations.
I've heard great things about the Benromach 10. Its on my list now.

Talisker 10 Year. I was able to try the 18 year recently and found that I too prefer the 10 year old.

Great discussion @whiskyshiba! I think it would be superfluous to mention my fav 10yo! However I'm planning on buying a bottle of Springbank 10yo very soon and considering the samples I've had sofar I think it may climb my favorites 10yo ranking very quickly. I will keep you posted ;). Cheers

Ardbeg 10, BenRiach 10 Curiositas, Macallan 10 Year Old Cask Strength and the Greenore 10 Year Old Grain Single Cask by Cooley.

@whiskyshiba Hope you enjoy the Benromach. Unusually complex for a ten. Takes a few settings to really "get it." Worth it though.

Ardbeg 10, Arran 10, Yoichi 10, Ledaig 10 (new bottling, not the old one)

I'm partial to Glenmorangie 10 Original. Laphroaig 10 and Arbeg 10

Springbank 10 and Talisker 10, a cannot make a choice bewteen these two, it just depends on the mood. Also very good: Ardbeg 10 and Glenmorangie 10 (especially the cellar 13).

I'd have to say Talisker 10, because to me it stands alongside HP 12 (not eligible) as the best "balanced" whisky around. I'll also nominate Laphroaig 10 when I'm in a more contemplative mood. In saying that, I've got 2 ten year olds coming this week (Springbank & Ben Nevis) so I may have a new favourite.

My two favorites from those I've tried are at opposite ends of the spectrum: the Glenmorangie 10 and the Laphroaig 10.

Albeit based on only one sample (with a bottle still, surprisingly, unopened while waiting for my b-day to roll around in less than three weeks), I would emphatically state that my favourite 10 yo that I have tried is Parker's Heritage Collection Wheated Kentucky Bourbon...simply awesome! It also marks my first (I think) non-chill filtered whisk(e)y.

Sherry: Aberlour Sherry Cask Finish. Peat: Ardbeg 10 and Bowmore Tempest.

I have to agree, Talisker 10yo, after ardbeg 10 and springbank 10 100 proof!

Currently, I am amazed by the Talisker 10. Thanks @drinix! Slight smoky peat, briny, and that pepper, all balanced out by the slight sweetness. I actually prefer this to the 18yr. I enjoy its younger "bite."
